My G1 heart says "Go with Prowl!" but I have my doubts he'd survive this one. Scourge was just too bad-ass (one of, if not THE coolest character in that series). While Prowl was thinking out his next move or calculating potential risk to nearby landmarks, Scourge would straight-up stick him.

I never watched RID except the first show and it turned me right off. But isn't RID Scourge a super bad ass Decepticon that can hold him own against Optimus Prime?
Prowl often gets the short end of the stick in every confrontation in the comic books. And worse in the movie, not to mention he had to rely on Chip to make him fight when his battle computer went down in the original show.
I would really need to see what RID Scourge was like in some format before I made a choice. But with Prowl in the more modern series, I would go with him then the earlier Prowls. And maybe Animated Prowl would have a better chance?

Scourge. He's not hindered by his logic, where Prowl has been known to be distracted by his own tactical planning.
Scourge was quite the bad arse, and he is Optimus Primes equal, plus has a base loaded with weaponry. I think he'd blow Prowl away.
(You should give RID a try if you can stomach the anime cheesiness that comes with it. It was one of the better series in this last decade IMO.)

I remember when I actually saw the TV ads for it while on vacation in Barbados. I was at a beach bar, visiting some family I hadn't seen in years when it popped on the bar's TV. Some months later when I got up early to watch it, I was complete turned off by it. And any clips I see of it doesn't help.

I'll say this: the first several episodes of RiD are a little suckish... but the series really hits it stride about halfway in; and the final few eps are really done well.
