I know we talked about it in the chat Neo, so here it is, and anyone is welcome to join in!
The new series of Dr Who, series 7, will now be aired sometime in August! Which can only be weeks away! It has also been revelealed that the series first episode will be named Asylum Of The Daleks! New series, and sooner than expected with a Dalek episode to kick us off! Haven't seen them for a while, hope they're still not multi-coloured.. Also, I think in episode #5 or mid way through Rory and Amy Pond (Arthur Darvill and Karen Gillan will be departing as companions. (I might add a spoiler code to this forum just in case.)
A little info on how I got into Dr Who:
I was never really a fan growing up, I had seen the unofficial films with Peter Cushing mainly and was aware of it in the 80's, but to be honest it never really interested me. By the mid to late eighties we had ex-childrens presenters (Sophie Aldred) and the likes of Bonnie Langford as an companions which put me off even more.
Nope, in fact it wasn't until the TV movie set just before the Millenium, with Sylvester McCoy regenerating into Paul McGann that I gave it a proper go. I knew of the basic idea - Man travelling in time, great enemy being the Daleks but I thought I'd give the TV movie a go. It was okay. It never sparked off a new series though and it wasn't until the great comeback with Christopher Eccleston in 2005 that I really, REALLY became a fan! (And got it more being much older.) So I started with him but Tennant was "My Doctor", which is funny given my initial reaction after Chris left. I did become a bit of a fan-boy, and had one of those moments when we saw the Daleks and Cybermen go head to head under Tennant's Doctor. I've stuck with it although I digress it became a bit tedious eventually because of RTD (Russel T Davis') writing.
So there you have it. Since watching in 2005 I have also ventured back and am fond of the Pertwee/Tom baker years, especially the latter. I particuarily gre fond of Patrick Troughton notably, the second doctor, and even Davison's era! I haven't seen every single one of those mentioned nor would I profess too but as an adult I think I appreciate the older ones more now than when I - didn't as a kid.

First off, let me say this.....
I AM THE ONLY PERSON I KNOW WHO DIDN'T GET SCARED OF THE OPENING SEQUENCE FOR DOCTOR WHO.
....that is after seeing it a couple of times.
Tom Baker is my Doctor. I love the new series but I'm old school and TB is my Doctor. I did watch the Pertwee/Davidson episodes but Baker is my Doctor, long scarf and all.
Honestly, the new series is better. Its kinda hard to watch the old stuff, the new stuff is written so much better. And Matt Smith is really winning me other. I didn't like the idea of a new Doctor Who but then I got in to it.
Personally I like ever actor who payed him in the new series. CE is like the mad Doctor who is angry cause all the time lords are dead. DT is a happier DW since meeting Rose and MS is the even happier DW after being so happy as the DT Doctor.
I seriously love the show, me and my gf are really in to it.

Yes! Had no idea you were into it. I haven't watched much Pertwee to be honest, I think it would be hard because I grew up with him in the 80's as Worzel Gummidge, a UK show about a scarecrow that comes to life. (Post-WHO). It's funny with davison as well as I knew him from thisUK TV show ehere he played an animal vet (As in country animals). Now I never watched this show, it didn't appeal, but even as an adult I was skeptical therefore of watching his series as an adult, the cricket outfit etc, yet suprisingly I really liked his era. I also liked his young companion Adric who seems to be like Marmite, you either love or hate him. I really liked Chris Eccleston, and I think you've got it spot on. He was an angry alot of the time, although there was the northern charm as well, angry because of the time war and being the last of the time-lords. Whe I first saw him regenerate into David Tennant, my first series regeneration, I didn't think he'd fit at all. I was hugely skeptical, and he went on to being my favourite Doctor! My favourites would probably go: Tennant, Baker, Davison, Eccleston, Troughton, Perwee, Hartnell, McCoy (Only because I still have seen hardly any of his yet), Colin Baker (Same reason as McCoy), McGann (Only the TV movie not enough to get a sense of him.) There's something about Tom Baker though, the voice, the personality, that's definitlewy why he rates highly on my list of Doctors.

Let me tell you, I used to wear ultra long scarfs because of Tom Baker's Doctor. Carried Jellybeans and I even made my own sonic screw driver. I even named my first dog 'K-9'. People thought I would name a dog well, 'dog'. But I didn't care. I even have a remote control K9, thinking of which I should bring him out to chase the cats!
Tom Baker really has a strong presence about him. Height and voice alone. Then his big smile, crazy hair and the way his eyes bug out. You can't ignore him, plus he had Sarah Smith. Well so did Pertwee...
..... and Pertwee was good in his own right. Out of all the Doctors he could throw down in a fight. In fact I saw him use a laser gun on an alien, awesome scene all together. He's a good Doctor in the way he was very serious yet kind and approachable. The original Doctor, Chris Eccleston and Colin Baker were serious too but not too friendly. That said I used to hate Colin Baker cause I thought he looked like a crappy, 2nd class Tom Baker rip off but now I'm curious to watch his episodes.
Now I did grow to love and respect David Tennant very highly. But there's something about Matt Smith that makes him for me. DT's Doctor seems more confident, more rowdy, argumentative, quick to take a stand while MT seems far more quirky, complains more, far more vulnerable and rather child like. But when it comes down to actions he's as brave as any Doctor thats come before him. I think there's a craftier side to him as well, as sometimes you wonder how he'll come out of a unescapable situation and he pulls it off with ease.
Or maybe I'm completely wrong and I just prefer the stories and production values of the new DW series.....

So who were your favourite companions Hoist?
I'm divided between the first Romana and Sarah Smith. Sadly both actresses have passed on now, but at least Sarah got to meet the 10th and 11th Doctor and even had her own show. Romana was always hot stuff too!

Sarah Jane Smith definetly! I only first became aware of her in tennant's "School Reunion" episode", but knew she had been a past companion. (Keeping in mind I was still in my infancy of watching older WHO.) SO I thought it was great when she came back. Even though it was aimed to kids, I ended up watching the spin-off series as well, The Sarah jane Adventures, so I became very fond of her. Such a shame she's gone.
I also liked Romana, Adric as already mentioned, I can't rememmber if it was Nyssa or Tegan I liked, probablly the latter, Rose Tyler and Amy Pond (+ Rory!). I didn't mind Donna Noble, but couldn't gel with Martha.

Ok, so which style of Doctor do you like?
And I mean in terms of attitude, quirkiness and even clothes.

I'm not sure if there's one "specific" style I like, i think it's more like a combination of many. Humour is good always good (Baker, Tennant, Smith even Ecclestone to an extent), but I really like it when the Doctor is troubled, either by his past or future threats, apart from the Pandoraca(?) Box, I don;'t think we've seen this enough yet with Smith, certainly with tennant we have and he did it very, well but special mention here has to go to Ecclestone.
You described him as an "angry doctor" and in a way that's right yet he still had his charm, quirkyness humour, Eccleston really showed these multi-faceted surfaces of the doctor. Best episode if the first Dalek episode of the new 2005+ series onwards, and his reaction to the dalek as the Doctor. Chris Ecclestonbe did that incredibly well, even I had a bit of a fan-gasm moment! When I say quirkyness and humour alot of that for me comes from the early doctors like baker and in particular Troughton. This said I do like the almost mad inventor, slightly bonkers style of Matt Smith.
For me it's a combination, having that humour and quirkiness but that incredibly pressed burden from the Doctor's past.

Okay just watched Doctor Who from yesterday on BBC iplayer, and there was a random Transformer at the end!
Five minutes from the end, Clara arrives home to the brats she babysits and there on the side was a Transformer! Not just any old Transformer though! If it was something current, I would've just been "Hey look, a Transformer!". Instead the bot - or rather con in question on the side of all things, was a G1 Galvatron!
Random!
