Each fortnight we will be looking at each episode of the G1 series from the 1st season till the 4th, or 3 and a bit if you wish. What did you like about them, tell us if you liked or hated them or what bits you liked or did not like. Like the Beast Wars topics, let's watch each one as if new, so let us begin! Transform and roll out! for... More Than Meets The Eye, Part One.Everytime i watch this i only have to hear the theme tune and it takes me back to saturday mornings in 1984 when i got up religously at 7:30 to watch it, even though i could've l;ayed in being a saturday. It's what got me onto the comics, and then in turn, the toys. Trivia: The first line was from Wheeljack - "We've got enough energy in these conductors to last a cortex!" If you say Cybertron, there's one image that pops into my mind straight away and that's the cartoon look, with the chunk out of the side, the flyovers and overhead streets that give it that look like the planet goes miles down. One think i noticed that i never did before was that when a "RING OF FIRE" gets put around the returning fire of wheeljack (alt mode) and bumblebee, who are fighting of the decepticon welcoming party of Starscream, skywarp and thundercracker, Skywarp turns completely light purple! Starscream turns bright yellow! (Sunstorm? ) Yes or course there were animation errors, many through the series, i just never noticed that one. Also Optimus's steering wheel when he makes that sharp move when the asteroids collide, the steering wheel doesn't look very technological in the spaceship way, in fact, it looks carved or like antlers! For me i think Starscream made a big impression on me when i was young, it's the voice as well as the character, the late Chris Latta did a great job on making him so memorable and a fan favourite. There's one one i love when the Decepticons are on the oil plant and Starscream see's the Autobots coming, i just love thew way "It's.. The Autobots!!" is delivered. Also loved Rumble back-handing Spike, is it me or did they have an ongoing in-joke, as they came across each other a few times! And it seems a few times he back-handed/pushed/shoved young Spike around! One thing i wondered, if the probe scouted for their earth forms (even soundwave being acceptable if it came across a human and his tape deck), just where did it go for Megatron?!!

[glow=blue,2,000]"The Autobots would of lost eno's ago if I'd been calling the shots!"
The first words we heard Starscream speak!
I remember when I first saw the first show. It was Sunday morning and we didn't have to go to church since we had went the day before (to see the Pope). When it began I honestly thought it was another ad for those cool TF toys. Then it began! Seeing the shot of space and the narrotors voice was what shocked me.
I think was had me in awe next was Shockwave's voice. I don't think too many kids had heard a character with a voice like that.
The big scene in there for me would be Hound and Cliffjumper's adventure. For me thats a huge part of the episode, maybe because Hound was my first TF toy. Reguardless, he had a huge part in this story. I think he was a well deserving character as well, loyal, a excellent soilder without attitude, loved earth and was Spike's friend before the whole Bumble Bee and Spike friendship thing. A perfect example of an autobot.
Jazz was also a stand out character and again because he had a cool voice. While he wasn't really the second in command, in the show he was and I think its his authority and cool demeaner that makes him loveable. I mean, wouldn't we all like to have a boss like that who's fun, parties, confident and cool? [/glow]

And don't forget Soundwave in the voice department! I loved his little speech about how they can "convert the cubes into Energon" his voice is so metallic and course! Especially in "Meteor shower!!! Meteor shower!!"
I also forgot to mention the music, out of all the series, yes all none have stood out as much as G1,. Yeah others had good music sure, but G1 had lot's of cool generic music with various differences and beats..
Dum dum, dum dum, dud ur du der der dum dum...

[glow=blue,2,000]Thats true, the main theme has under gone a few changes here and there in different shows, but its basicly the same. Even in the teaser for the new movie its there.
One thing that I forgot to mention was the way they introduced characters. It was alot better then the comics method, which had them talking nonscene to each other, as if for the sake of it.
While Reflector's and Ravage's intro, with Thundercracker could easily be reguarded as filler material, it was done better then most of the character introductions in the Marvel story.[/glow]

One thing I would like to mention as I pointed this out at the Moon, Starscream saved the Autobots!! Something I never noticed until like 3-4 days ago. He shoots at the ark while Megs tells him to stop! Starscream the ever obidient con disregards and shoots anyway! He knocks some boulders loose knocking Prime around inside the Ark and putting him right in Tealatrans1's scope.

Yeah - unwillingly saves them! But then you could say if he hadn't Meg's job would've been alot easier, and he didn't scrap this screaming seeker right there and then! As i'm sure one Megs (or a megs) said about him (Or a starscream) "He's more useful to me than dead!"

[glow=blue,2,000]Back to that alternate mode thing with Megatron, its weird when you think about it. I mean, Teletran One must have known that the Seekers needed flying modes. He must have know that Prime needed a trailer for Rollar and his mobile base. T1 must have some how known that the ambulence fitted Ratchet, but then what about Megatron and Soundwave? I guess for Soundwave it had little to now choice, but why not a full sized ghetto blaster? Better then a lamp post I guess Now Megatron, maybe the sky spy flew over a gun shop or saw the gun in the back of some mobster's car? I don't think it went near a military base for the gun, cause it Megs was a tank back on Cybertron, T1 would have converted him in to that. But then again, the Seekers are military jets, so the possiblity of a tank near by isn't that far off, no? Xbot could properly correct me if I'm wrong. Now here's something about the first episode; HAULER! The fans say that its Grapple and that he was suppose to have been released as a toy but was held back. I have read that this is false and was not made until later. But I find it strange that the fans would just assume thats its Grapple, when he was never seen again until later and just decided to change his name. Its too bad they didn't just use Huffer or Brawn to get Hound back to base.[/glow]

WHy wouldn't ehey assume it's grapple though, they're identical, perhaps just Grapple with no name yet, anyway i have my own theory. When i watched it i came up with my own theory about "Hauler" that perhaps it was a nick name like blacksmiths are called "Smithys" or "Blackies" perhaps it was a nicname because of the job he was dpoing, think about nit, "Hauler Haul him up!". That's my theory anyway. The only thing i can think ove rwith Megatron is that there was a bank robbery or something, why would it take the time to stop in a gun shop (window shopping)? Soundwave can easily be explained - maybe a building site with a tape deck out or hovered over a gang listening to there deck (In the hood, the gehetto man ) All sorts of reasons. But yeah, if the probe went over military bases, it could've easily picked up a tank for megs.

[glow=blue,2,000]You know, I honest thought that maybe the sky spy went past the window of a gun shop, but then thought better of it since I don't think the States are that lax in there gun laws. Guns in the window are only asking to get stolen But then again, Xbot can enlighten us. As for the fans that think Hauler is Grapple, there's nothing saying where he went after wards. I mean you could say he was in the Ark somewhere, but there are episodes that could of used him and that all the autobots were involved, yet no Grapple. Monty Python: "Silly Fans." And Hey! I take offense to your 'gang' comment, there 'Break Dancers'. Perfectly law abiding citizens. (Who cause alot of noise and vandalize with graffiti )[/glow]

[/glow] SInce when has it made sense though? This is G1 one were talking about! Animations errrors, Autobots popping up out of nowhere with no introduction and dissappearing just as quick. Hell in one episode there was a battle and though they never left the Ark, Powerglide and Warpath popped up out of nowhere! Powerglide stayed on to "Saaaaaave the daaaay", as he does, but after a quick 15 second appearance in 1 scene, Warpath totally dissappeared again after Never to be seenagain in the battle or episode!! So, anyway, what do you think about my theory anyway?...

[glow=blue,2,000]I'm not sure, I mean he doesn't repond and its not his function or anything like that. I would think that one lik Grapple would protest at being called something like that.[/glow]

Fighter Jets and Tanks today do not share the same space. Jets being localized on Naval Ships and Air Force bases while Tanks can "usually" only be found on Army bases near dessert areas and wide open spaces.
Even in todays Iraq, the Jets mostly come in from Naval Ships while the tanks are bunched in with the helicopters and other Army equipment..
The ARmy itself owns not 1 Jet.
So thearetically the scanner could not easily find a tank on an airfield for jets.
As for Megs, In WarDawn we see him in robot mode ..although he does not trasform(i think he doesn't) to methat is by no stretch of my imagination a tank.

[glow=blue,2,000]I bet they would have turned Megs in to a Shockwave style of gun if he had ever transformed back on Cybertron, before coming to earth.[/glow]

quick follow up, I cant recall but does anyone remember in War Dawn if the population HAD the ability to transform yet? or shall we save that for another time?
That would explain why Megs was not yet a tank

The various seekers on Cybertron I always assumed they were just henchmen like the ones in the episode where we see 'Rainstorm' an co. Just my interpretation, I never really thought of them as Starscream, Skywarp and Thundercracker.
There was a genuine sense of peril when they were on the oil rig and then trapped. You honestly believed there was danger as a child.
I thought the voices were generally excellently done for the time. I also found the addition of special abilities (which since got almnost entirely forgotten) great too. Jazz's grappling hook, Ironhide's laser, Sideswipe's jetpack. Awesome stuff when they already had a great transforming gimmick.
I still dont know how the Autobot thought they'd fool the Decepticons into thinking they were humans by wearing lab coats though...
