All continuties, cartoons, comics, toys etc!!
WHo was your favourite and why? Did you prefer the comic or the cartoon? WHich was your favourite toy? Let's get in depth!
Tell us about your favourite G1 comic stories, continuities, get nitty gritty about characters!
Let's really go for it this month and make this thread HUGE! After all we've alot of matter to cover!
So let's start back where it all began: Oregan, Earth, 1984. A race of Transforming robots from a war driven planet crash land on earth after their ship is boarded by the other faction who they have been fighting on their home planet of Cybertron for eons..
Reformatted into Earth vehicles they continue their fight on earth for supremecy and for power to return home to their waring planet..
What were your initial thoughts when you 1st got into G1 transformers?
I got into the cartoon first (which ultimetly led towards the comics). Two tribes of giant robots fighting on earth obviously would make a very impressionable mark of a kid between 8 & 10 years old (as it did me), and that's what got me started, hooked into the cartoons every Saturday morning...
Of course we all loved Optimus Prime (well some of us!) but i always favoured Grimlock and the Dinobots right from the get-go. Being interested in dinosaurs anyway, metallic dinosaurs that transformed into robots was a big bonus for me..

[glow=blue,2,000]Jazz. Thats all I have to say.
Well ok there's more! I really can't remember what it was that drew me in to the original TF series but I do know it was the coolest thing around. I would set the VCR every Sunday morning before heading off for church and watching it as I came home. Then it went to after school.
I remember me and my friends watching it awe commenting out every single move and scene was cooler then cool. And we'd make fun of all the other shows that we thought sucked! (GI Joe, ThunderCats...)
Then the comic, well I was allways in to the show more so then the comic because of the less then impressive art work I suppose, plus the show had more action every episode.
Now my first TF was Hound, which I'm still searching for on ebay. Favourites would be Sideswipe, Tracks, Jazz, Screamer, Soundwave, Rumble, the first 5 Minibots (Anti-Bumble here!) and the Dinobots like Hoist. I own these guys again as reissues or originals off ebay and of course I have Optimus Prime. Never had him as a kid.
And as far as I'm concern, TF can be G1 forever and ever! I will of course show interest in the new concepts but if it ended tomorrow, it won't be bad. Cause G1 has stood the test of time and will all ways be apart of me. And as much as I wish I was still a kid, I can say I was lucky enough to have TF as a kid!

Well I loved the cartoon as...a younger kid, but having seen BW and then G1 again, it kinda felt empty maybe because not every character got enough onscreen time. Best character(s) were Optimus, Soundwave, Screamer, Jazz and Bluestreak.

again, Bluestreak is a prime one who it would have been nice to had more airtime....
I rember the greatest please of just running downstair s every weekend (once i started getting comics) just to find the latest TF comic on the doormat.
There was i time were my family often went away to see relatives in the next city (I had loads of uncles and aunts etc) and i knew i'd miss my comic as we were away for a week..
As soon as we returned there it was on the coffee table (my mother's friend looked out for the mail). UK comic 66, with blaster being chucked into the smelting pool!
Speaking of comic covers, my favourite of all was the US issue 5 cover (UK #22) with the Shockwave "All are dead" covetr. To me it's the bestest ever comic cover that said sooooooo as well showing how **** off evil shockwave was and looked!

Yeah Prime ruled, everyone loved Prime and if you didnt therew was something wrong with you!
I remember getting Prime for my 5th birthday with jazz, then spending my birthday money on Megatron the same day. Best presents ever!
Fave character when I was little was Jazz, i loved the cra mode and thought he was cool, simple as that.
First toy was Brawn, still holds aplace in my heart. he i the ultimate macho meat head!
Dinobots are class. Transforming dinosaurs is genius! Slag wa smy fave but in recent years Snarl has been creeping up in my estimation. The brooding thing is cool. Of course i like Grimmers, swoop is cool for the Divebomb fued. Sludge is the weakest but best toy (go figure).
Fave of all time toy and character wise is (as many of you laready know) Octopunch. Loved the look of th gy and the mayhem attack squad story with Carnivac still ranks as one of my all time fave stories.
For non toy characters Straxus in the bubble is awesome, i also really liked Flame.

[glow=blue,2,000]Lean Green is right. Issue #5 had the best cover also the most impact. Not the best artwork TF has ever seen but it stands as being a classic cover, untouchable. What better way to start off what was suppose to be a limited series by killing everyone? When I started collecting TF as a kid I remember all over Toys became 2nd place. My Joes? Sold them. My Star Wars? Kept those actually, but then pops threw them out! I wonder how many G1 toys there are all together?[/glow]

Thats whats great about saeeing the Moon's TF collection. All the G1 toys bar a couple and most others too! Pretty freakin amazing to see them all at once.
Yeah that cover is a stand out classic. I really like the G2 cover with Prime and Megs fighting side by side. Its a nice final kinda thing.
Also the end of the reaod Uk covers were cool. i really liked the one with Xaaron getting blown up by Unicron and the one with prime standing over Scorp's dead body. trhey were amazing painted art work.

what did everyone think the weakest G1 Transformer was? The only thing i objected too was when they started getting too plasticy like Blurr and Kup ane even, yes even hot rod (although with that nice car mode it kinda rules it out )

[glow=blue,2,000]The Headmaster and Pretenderss were really hard to like. To square, even though most Tfs toys could only move there arms, these guys really loked bad and its a pity because there cartoon/comic forms rocked!
Then there's Actionmasters. Perhaps good for say, comics like Shaxper's or even some battle scenes, but they were cheap and couldn't transform.
I had a Kup with a metal chest, had a Blurr but I don't remember if he was metal at all, had a Hot Rod with metal feet.
Thats one of the things about G1. There designs stand out, have combated the test of time, and even with the lack of personality in so many of them, they continue to have a strong fan base.
One thing that I liked was the Ark. The Autobot base in a crashed ship in the base of the mountain. When they were going to go home were they going to pull it out then? Its funny when you think about it. Its like Han Solo being the one of the galaxy's best pilots but his ship is falling apart.[/glow]

I really like the pretedners (con ones anyway). I think the shells give them real character and they stand out as individual;s from the other more generic toiys.
For worst toys Id say the Wreckgar/Blurr/Kup/Rodimus Prime era started the down hill slide.

[glow=blue,2,000]Yup, the toys just got dodgy as time when by. But I did like the Movie cast and how they went on in the show. But I believe only the UK comics had the right idea in making a serperate possible future for those characters, and the OP still alive one on earth. If only more care and attention was given to TF back then.
And speaking of the movie, I should dig up this articule I read on this guys opinion of how it was a bad mistake to kill off Prime and Megs in the movie. He says something about sales of toys dropping really low.[/glow]

Yeah, they were supposed to be the two most popular toys, with like 5 different versions of Megs, and 6 of Optimus.

What about comic stories? One of my early favourites was The Dambusters (May have been just UK?) and Shockwave's dismemberment of the autobots can capturing Prime's head to create the new teams, that was BIG. And of course the 2006 story with random transformers dissapperaing with strange ones popping up from the future. I didn't like Goldbug though, never have. Bumblebee superior, goldbug inferior.
