G1: First the Constructicons then the ubiquitous five limb combiner style plus the other one offs like Predaking and Monstructor. Later the less impressive micromaster combiners.
BW: The introduction of the three component Tri-predacus and Magnaboss
RID: Re-use of Bruticus, Landfill a four part combiner.
Energon: The 'Maximus' combiners using several identical limbs.
-----------------------------------------
Obviously include the japenese combiners as you will in the discussion.
My question being that from my point of view the quality and 'fun' aspect of the toys is gone.
I look at the Enegron guys and due to terrible release schedules and sets they are a terrible set to collect. Not only that but the majority of people I have spoken to that do own them dont rate them very highly at all. The hands and feet just look diabolical.
By example the G1 sets were relatively easy to complete as a child and I remember buying Defensor in the classics range in almost one go. I never had a problem with the Aerialbots or Combaticons either back in the 80s.
The same bad release schedules as Energon seemed to plague RID, it took my brother months of searching to complete Landfill and it wa sonly due to my travelling to conventions he completed Ruination. I myself was lucky to complete them early on for other reasons.
BW had a different and perhaps wiser approach of the Ultra style box sets of all three. No problems there and both were easdy to obtain.
Personally i am a big combiner fan and would njever want to lose them from the TF line, however I really do think Hasbro should re-evaluate their ideas about how to market and release them.
Thoughts?

I think the apt thing to say here is if you have nothing to say dont say anything at all.
Thats my polite and only warning.

Go play with your Galaxy Force Toys or somethin'.... [glow=blue,2,000]Yeah, dissing the Moderators, never a good idea. Dissing anyone on TTF or any attitude like that, isn't accepted. We may be a open message board but we don't play by those public forum rules. Were more like a friendly VIP club but opened to new members, who don't have anti-social issues. Consider this a warning.[/glow]

[glow=red,2,300]Yo!The trains in RID rocked too! Plus RID had Prime and Magnus combine...Way kewl! As for Energon combiners......Brut Maxs ruled above all three to me...Enough that I hunted down another to keep in package. *Tosses UP and towel.* Be easy and..........respect them...they will respect you. I had no problems completing RID landfill or Ruination. However i'm not onvinced by say the universe ones, they just don't appear physically like the old ones any more. Whilst i am very happy to have Ruination, there is only so much you can do, move the arms, swap the bodies for limbs around etc. I still can't decide on Energon Optimus the sumarine, copter, drill etc temp me but it's still big bulgy energon prime..

Personally i dont see the appeal of the Energon style powerlinx combiners or the increasingly 'necessary' Prime/Magnus/Whoever combos.
Powermaster Prime was awesome. RID Prime/Magnus was novel. Armada Prime/Jetfire was a little weak but looked better than Prime on his own let alone if you stick Overload with them. Now it gets silly...
I know it was the whole gimmick of energon but personally there is no appeal. A combiner gestalt set is cool but I just dont like the fact everyone can combine with everyone elkse. Pure prefernce i guess.
Oh and yeah i missed the RID trains, they were pretty good I guess.

? Uh Rainy.......In G1 everyone could combine gestalts....right?I mean....Superion could combine with Computron and the likes.....So Energon wasnt groud breaking......... Ground breaking would have to go to RID.The trains and the build team.Awesome and solid. Speaking of Energon combiners.....The Dinobots.Bad move.....Weakest of all combines/gestalts. The Prime combiner is wayyyyyyyyyyyy over done.Dont get me wrong...Wingsabre and Prime look kickazz together........Its kewl that Wingsabre can be air armour or ground attack armour......Guess thats what saved him in my book.Plus the fact that Wingsabre looks like......uhhhh....a lil help......whats his name.Victory.....errrr......damn.

What about Armada Megs and Tidalwave?Good or bad combiner?

What I meant with Energon HA was the 'regular' characters doing it not the gestalts themselves. It ceases to be anything special when they're all doing it.
As for Megs/TW same as everytyhing else I guess. Neat idea but destroyed by overuse recently. If we had too many Magnus/PM prime sin G1 that cobmining armour thing would get old fast too. In terms of Armada I think Megs/TW works really well but when you add Energon into the mix as a 'recent' TF line it seems weaker. The toy itself isnt bad although could be a more solid combination. Always reminds me of Centurion Max Ray visually.

The green suited guy from Centurions who was the sea specialist. His back pack from the depth charge (i think it was called that) suit looks similar to TW combined with Megs.
