In the cartoons I mean. Whilst Rodimus was busy whining about "being the chosen one", Magnus had a lot more better command grasp. But then if you make a tempestuous hot-head as leader, fun-loving hot rod - it's no wonder he couldn't quite grip the issue of leadership.
What do you think?

After I watched the third season I pretty much think of Magnus as the Autobot leader and Cyclonus as the Decepticons leader. Rodimus and Galvatron were both less then stelar and I personaly couldn't stand either.

I always thought Magnus would have been a better character if he was in charge. With Rodimus as commander, Magnus had no real role. He was pretty much just a super soldier/officer with nothing much too offer. Kup was Rodimus' Obi Wan, leaving Magnus out of the picture and more under Rodimus shadow, being marked as the Autobot who couldn't deal with leadership.
Rodimus should of stayed Hot Rod, rushing into trouble with Kup nagging him along the way. Then the two of them would then find themselves in Magnus' officer, trying to explain what happen so they can justify the reason for getting in trouble in the first place.
Your right Hoist, Magnus just fits the part. And he looks it. He looks like he can tussle with Galvatron, he has the firepower, the armor and the strength. Rodimus seems out of his weight class.
Plus the thing that actually bugs me is, both of them feel a serious lack of confidence in the leadership department role. Why two Autobots with the same insecurity? Let it be Magnus and leave Hot Rod do what he does best; being Hot Rod.

Like Onix said, in season three Magnus was as good as whilst Rodimus continued to "Doubt himself." I've said before I've always prefered the much stronger (In character) comic Magnus, but it's almost in season three he started to get that treatment, that the movie was a stand alone "Indecisive Magnus".
I've read in other forums "What if Rodimus wasn't leader" and who would be in charge. Some say Springer (As per some comic/annual stories). But then i guess it's who the Matrix "Chooses"?

I could never see Springer as the chosen one. His good points are that he's a stand up guy, fearless, strong warrior and he gets the job done. He would be super boring as Springimus (heh!)

Holy crap I was thinking of Magnus as the leader last week!
I would of loved to have seen Magnus as the new leader and Hot Rod as Hot Rod. A couple seasons of Magnus holding the Autobots together while Hot Rod matures into Rodimus.
Plus I would of love to see Magnus under pressure of his own insecurities, feeling that he was not the leader that Optimus was.
And the anger of knowing that Megatron survived his battle with Optimus, to be rewarded a new, more powerful body as Galvatron.

Yeah, and now that I've read the entirety of Re-Generation One I looked and read through this thread again to see if my opinion now differed, but I still hold the same thoughts.
