g.
Yesterday saw the 10th anniversary since RID first aired, so naturally today's 4 for 4 cartoon based theme, is about the entire RID series. What did you think about it/remember? What did you like not like? Favorite characters? What could have been done that wasn't or would you have wanted to see?

As it was one of the series that got me into the fandom I really enjoyed it. The characters were expressive and the storylines fun.
I personally loved the predacons. I've always been attracted to characters who are failures in an entertaining way as well as those who are unsure and clumbsy. Skybyte quickly became a favourite. I liked how he was continuously fighting for his place in Megatrons spotlight after Scourge came along as well.
X-brawn and Midnight Express were also two characters I really liked. The build team were also pretty awesome.
I didn't like the girl. She seemed unnessesary to me and why an Autobot computer program would look like a human is... a little odd.
Most of the time It wasn't super serious and never lost its playful swirl. Although the storylines which involved mainly humans were okay, they weren't as exciting as the ones where they weren't the main event.

I only really liked Sky-byte of the Predacons, I found Darkscream, Gaskunk and Slapper a bit too annoying and spineless. It's a shame Sky-byte became more "comedy value" once Scourge and Ruination were on the scene as in the early episodes he was actually pretty smart, good at tracking, and a bit of a bad ass at fighting. One of my favourites though.
I only watched a handful of episodes, so I'm currently re-watching them, nice to get a fresh perspective.
The announcing of the attacks was kind of annoying, but I like how the Spychangers attacked Darkscream, Gaskunk and Slapper, three using the others alt modes to ride on whilst attacking! I starting to get quite fond of Midnight Express with his very "good guy" persona!

Interestingly enough, did you know in Japan Midnight Express was the young inexperienced on while Rapid Run was the old grizzled bot?
I liked RID. It was goofy and all, but that was part of it's charm. Sybyte and Sideburn were 2 favorites because they seemed to always have a back and forth going on.
The calling out of attacks never bothered me, because that was all around the Pokemon/Digimon era and so, as a kid, I was just used to it.
The humans weren't that annoying, and were mostly out of the way.
OIverall, it was one of my favorites in the last decade. Definitely beating out Armada, Energon and Cybertron, but falling under Animated.

Me and my wife had only recently relocated to Tennessee when it was announced the Transformers was coming back to TV. Reading that the characters would be "mostly" vehicle based thrilled me, as while I loved the Beast Era I always preferred my 'bots as non-animals.
The first several episodes were okay... they didn't hold my attention like G1 but I've come to regard them as far better than the Armada/Energon/Cybertron saga that followed it.
The calling out of moves took some getting used to. The recycling of names was pretty cool; I liked how they kept Prowl as a police car in homage to his G1 figure.
Favorite characters would probably be Scourge, Ultra Magnus, Sky-Byte, and the Build Team. I don't really know WHY I enjoyed the Build-Team so much; maybe it was their team dynamic or the fact that they were all brilliantly colored. I don't know. I just liked them.
I also found the Omega Prime concept interesting and well executed in the series. In fact, the entire Optimus Prime/Ultra Magnus storyline was a highlight of the series in my opinion.
About the only character's I didn't really care for were Tow Line and Skidz. And even those were okay, I mean they never approached **Wheelie** level of hatred in my eyes, but I wouldn't have missed them if they'd decided to move to another galaxy.
The introduction of Fortress Maximus and the O-Rings, which appeared near the end of the series and in fact (if I remember correctly) closed out the series, took TF: RiD to another level. The "kiddie" aspect of the show was reduced slighly in favor of a more action-dominated cartoon.
A lot of fandom craps all over RiD. That's cool... it's their right to do so. Every TF fan has a favorite and least favorite series, Some fans LOVE the Unicron Trilogy... I don't, but some do. That's the great thing about being a Transformers fan. One fan's crap is another fan's treasured favorite.
Is RiD my favorite TF series ever? No. But it's nowhere near as bad as that Armada crap. ;D

Funnily enough AP, when I was re-watching them, I just got to Towl-line's introduction, so I can't say to much about him yet. I can't remember too much about him, which, if he's that forgettable can't be good. I will have to getting back to watching the rest because I originally never did see it to the very end. Overall, it was one of my favorites in the last decade. Definitely beating out Armada, Energon and Cybertron, but falling under Animated. Definitely agree with that! I guess the calling out of attacks is a very 90's thing, and being an 80's child, along with older fans would notice it more. It just isn't much of a suprise if you announce your attack, but as you say very 90's, and also very Japan. My favourites were definitely Sky-byte, Scourge and Ruination. As mentioned Midnight Express has become more of a "Modern favourite". The Autobot brothers were fine, although I still attain that Sideburn was the last favourite of any of the characters. Out of the three Autobot brothers, I mostly like X-Brawn. In hindsight, as an adult - and I've thought this for a very long time, Although I like RID Prime, I was never keen on the voice. It was fine but just a bit too throaty like Neil Kaplan had a wasp in the back of his throat. I'll watch some more and add more of my thoughts soon.

Definitely very Japan.
I guess as a kid I just went for the token kid characters. I loved Cheetor, and I loved Sideburn. I did like them for other reason too, though. Like Cheetahs have always been my favorite animal, and one of my favorite cars has always been the Dodge Viper. I remember loving the Sideburn figure instantly at the store because it was a Viper.
I remember a sort of funny story, lol. It was a friends birthday, and he wanted Prowl. Prowl was his favorite. I had just begun collecting then, and I really didn't want him to have Prowl and me not have him, so I got him Grimlock for his birthday instead. Looking back it may have not been for the best, as it wasn't long after that I was the only one in our group of friends still into Transformers, and he gave me his Transformers. But then again, I did receive that Grimlock minus several pieces so I imagine Prowl wouldn't have fared better. At least he kept his Skybyte in on piece.
I don't even remember Towline, so he must not have been to prevalent a character.

Towline wasn't a major character in RiD, that's for sure. It's just that for some reason he always stuck out in my mind... it's probably due to him reminding me of G1 Hoist.

Towline was one of those "Go around making sure no humans were illeaglly parked and occasionaly turn up in an episode" types.
