In today's weekly 4 for 4 question we're asking what you think of the Beast Wars Predacons.
In 1996, after a quite a bit of a gap since G2, we finally had a new Transformers series. In the series the Transformers change into animals - it was one that divided fans initially. Although there are some that don't like Beast Wars, it has since become reguarded as perhaps the most loved and endeared, fan-favourite series..
We are first introduced to the Predacons in the midst of a giant battle with the Maximals after coming through a rift in space. The Maximals had locked onto the Predacon's ship and had also possibly gone back in time as wlll as through space. Why? - because Megatron has stolen the golden disc which reveals where the most concentrated place of Energon is - Earth. Within several minutes we establish Dinobot's loyalty and personality when he claim's there on the wrong planet and challenges Megatron to leadership. There's also Scorponok's loyalty, and then an introduction into Waspinator, the hard done by Predacon who always seems to be cannon bait. Joined by Tarantulas and Terrorsaur in a battle soon after where we see all their capabilities.
So what did you think of the Predacons? Who was your favourite? What did you think of the development of the Predacons over the three series and later Predacons?

Megatron was awesome!
What was good about him was he was completely different form G1 Megatron, ya I know he was a completely different robot but they could of just been lazy and copied the original.
He was truly a villain, one that thought he was in the right. And arrogrant as can be. And nothing beats his "Ahhh Yes!"

I was one of those old-school fans who detested Beast wars when it first came out. I mean I hated it. My younger brothers were all over it, calling it the best show ever and all that jazz. But I eventually came around!
At first meeting, I found very little to like about Beast Wars Megatron. Although his manner of speaking is now embraced and part of his everlasting charm, it drove me crazy when I first listened to him.
I always felt like they were trying to set up Terrorsaur as the BW version of Starscream. Maybe it was because they both flew or had voices that were at least a little familar, I don't know, but it seemed like he and Megatron had a relationship dynamic that harkened back to G1. In time that relationship ended... mainly due to Terrorsaur DYING... but I've always had a soft spot for him.

I was the same AP, I caught a few shows during my (then post collage) years but didn't realy like it/animals thing. It was only in more adult life I really began to appreciate it and ended up loving it.
Ir ead recently they only killed terrorsaur because they were going to kill of Waspinator at the start of season #2, but he had become too popular so they went with Terrorsaur instead. It's funny with the comparisons with him and Starscream as I saw some of them in in Dinobot in Series #1 episode #1. (Re-watched the other day). The similarities end there though, as Dinobot has more honour and I dare say is more ruthless than G1 Starscream. He also did actually stand up to Megatron and try and make good on threats.
Although megatron took his name from the "great on" and was the Megatron, it would've been an easy safe bet to do a character like the original, but they didn't. Maybe it was because the head honchos weren't that familar with G1. David Kaye made this version of Megatron his own though! The T-Rex is actually my second favourite mode of his in that series, I've always loved that dragon mode he had later on. First time I saw it - blown away.

Predacons, were to begin.
Megatron - still one of the best Megatrons to ever exist, if not the best (it is hard to decide between Animated Megatron, Prime Megs and Beast Wars Megs). You had to love his personality, and he often had plans that actually went places (but of course the good guys have to win). He always had an appeal factor as a kid being a T-Rex, and he was just more cool as a dragon.
Tarantulas - evil scientist, trader, and spawn of unicron. Tarantulas is one of the best characters to come out of Beast Wars, and it is a real shame he hasn't made an appearance since. Tarantulas's transmetals form is one of the coolest designs of the series.
Waspinator - you can't help but love him. He cannon fodder, but he always had an innocence about him, like he was a pred only because he wasn't smart enough to know otherwise.
Scorponok - the resident butt kiss. Not my favorite character. Didn't miss him when he died.
Terrorsaur - definitely designed as the Starscream template for Beast Wars. He even kind of had that seeker look about him. He was never really as cunning though. However, it did suck that he met his demise at the beginning of season 2.
Blackarachnia - she was a pred longer than a maximal, so she counts. I feel like she was mostly just a female Tarantulas (makes Silverbolts relationship with her a bit strenge if you think about it). She was always doing the science this and betraying Megatron, but she has become iconic in Transformers. Without her we'd never of had the the ace Blackarachnia from Animated.
Inferno - he is the loyal butt kiss that you actually like. His malfunctioned personality (basicly the Tigatron of the Preds) made him the loveable lunatic. Interesting fact, he was originally intended to be a new body for Megatron.
Quickstrike - cool concept, annoying character.
Rampage - plain and simple, he is awesome. A crab, a tank, and a completely psychotic bad arse that was vertually indestructible. He also was a means of some pretty awesome retcon involving Starsceam.
Dinobot(2) - the transmetal 2 clone of Dinobot and spark brother of Rampage. He wasn't really given much of a personality, but he was cool nonetheless.
Ravage - have to include him. He was cool for his 2 epissode run (or did he make it into the third episode?) Decepticons forever!

I know everything that can be said about Megatron has already been said, but I'm just going to go ahead and say he was awsome, the classic Bond villain the likes of which we have yet to see again. Blackarachnia's progression from sadistic monster to heroic Maximal was brilliantly done, I thought, and I always chuckle when I think about Inferno calling Megatron his 'Queen'. So all in all, they were one of the best groups of villains in TF history, rivalled only by the might and expanse of the G1 comic Decepticons.

I read that they were going to kill off Waspinator originally at the beginning of season 2, but because he was so popular they had to change it to Terrorsaur in stead. loved the latter's screechy "Terroriiiiiize!", and the early episode in season #1 where he seized power after gaing energon for himself and getting a major boost. I always saw elements in of Starscream-ism in Dinobot though personally.
It's funny with Ravage, such a small appearance, but such a huge impact. Just that one transformation scene where he first reverted to a cassette and my mouth was open because of the nostalgia. I wasn't really keen on Quickstrike either, I preferred Depth Charge, to me he was much cooler, especially his land mode.
