For today's 4 for 4, I have been racking my brain for a topic, some of which were more suited for other days.
Anyway in today's 4 for 4 we ask the big Yay or Neh for RID toys! To celebrate the 10th anniversary, I thought an all-out RID toy discussion would be good. Did you like them/not like them, which ones did you like/not like? Good points/bad points. things perhaps you would have like to have seen? How do they compare to past toys/ or ones after or today? What was your first (or last?) RID toy?
For me it was a very special period. The R.I.D. toys got me back into collecting the toys again as an adult. I didn't even know there were still Transformer toys having been out of the loop. I was in a UK store called Woolworths and looked over at the toys and thought "hmm I wonder if Transformers are still going?", and that's literally how I got back into collecting, just by curiosity to see if they were still going.
I saw the 2-pack Spychangers, of which there were many with different ones. I think I brought the one with REV and Crosswise first/or WARS and Hot Shot - or maybe both packs I can't remember. Those little Spychangers single-handedly got me back into collecting again. My first full sized figure was Megatron, temptation was to great and when I saw the Combaticon repaints into Ruination I hate to have them.
So RID toys are very special to me, and for the most part were good toys I think! I never did get sky-byte and only wish I could've got Scourge, especially after seeing Onix's review recently!

RID, where or where do I begin.
RID holds a special place for me as well. It didn't bring me back into Transformers, but instead it was at that time that I started getting on the internet and searching Transformers. I remember being excited about RID because it was going to be the Transformers with cars again (at the time I was convinced I had missed something with g1 because of influences on the internet, and even would say G1 was the best series, even without having watched it), So I started scouring the internet and joined a transformers site and learned you can collect Transformers. So I started in all respects with RID. (Most of my Beast Wars did not survive my childhood)
My first RID Figure was SIDEBURN!!!! I loved Vipers and he was the one I had to have. Then it was Optimus Prime. I remember my first little corner shelf and my original collection consisted of BW Injector, Tripredacus Agent, Depthcharge, RID Sideburn and Optimus Prime.
I proceeded to get whatever I could manage to get my hands on. I was enamored by the G1 repaints because I got to play with some of the toys from before I was alive.
Now, I can make my basis off of more than childhood glow though, and say the line, as of today, is still a pretty great line. A lot of figures were rehashed mold from series past but the original molds were pretty good. Megatron is still one of my favorite Megatron figures. Optimus and Ultra Magnus, and the combined Omega Prime are still very cool and still the best Optimus combiner there is (starting a theme that continued all the way through to Revenge of the Fallen). The Build Team was a pretty good combiner, with 3 different configurations much like the old Scramble City combiners. The three brothers were vehicle Transformers with Beast Wars engineering making them extremely flexible.
The repainted figures were great too. Scourge is a fan favorite, and started an evil Optimus trend that has lasted to this day. Skybyte has more paint apps than anything you will find today.
So it was a good line.
The last RID figure I got was Scourge, which I got kind of surprisingly for Christmas. It was Armada's first wave that holiday season, and my list had everything from that wave on it, along with the first wave of commemorative reissues. That Christmas morning was amazing. I can't remember what happened that year, but my parent had a lot of Christmas money that year, and is still the biggest Christmas we've ever had. I got pretty much all of the first wave of Armada, G1 Ultra Magnus and Scourge. I remember opening Scourge and being totally surprised. It of course wasn't on my list, and I had never physically seen one before. My parents said they found it hidden in the Transformers isle at one of the stores and bought it because they were pretty sure I didn't have it. Was a good Christmas.

Yes. TM2 Cybershark is just too plain. He is grey and green with some green and grey interspersed..... Skybyte had color and detail, he is what TM2 Cybershark should have been.
