I guess this is going to be like the masterpiece thread, but I was looking at my Alternators collection when Dead End caught my eye.. I took him of the shelf to see if I could still remember how to transform him, thankfully despite a few forgetful moments - I could. It reminded me how much I loved these figures though. So having a retrospect, what did you think of the Alternators/Binaltech line? Any favorites? Were there any you thought that were extremely well done or not done well enough or let downs in some way or another? Any other figures you would have like to have seen?. I personally loved the size of them, I remember jazz preferred smaller Transformers and felt they were too big. (Wonder if he still feels the same these days?). I loved the proportions, the details and transformations and especially the engines becoming weapons gimmick, although I would say it was more of a feature than a gimmick compared to TF's these days. Image search of Alts & Binaltechs - official, unofficial and customs. So let the great Alternator/Binatltech retrospect chat begin! let's here your thoughts on this past line.

I loved Alternators. Cool, real life cars that looked fantastic in vehicle mode to the point where they could be mistaken as model cars, and then real nice representations of characters that at the time hadn't had a figure since G1, it was a nice modernization of a lot of characters.
I was only fortunate enough to get 6 Alternators; Smokescreen, Sideswipe, Grimlock, Dead End, Tracks, and Ravage (Jaguar XK, not to be confused with Battle Ravage).
May favorite has to be Grimlock. He is still one of my favorite figures. I also quite like Ravage, as he was a very interesting figure going from a car to a beast robot mode. Dead End (and to an extent Sideswipe) are my favorites in vehicle mode because Vipers have always been my favorite car (Though I'm not big on the convertible version, which Sideswipe was). Tracks is probably my second favorite because I've always loved Tracks (as a figure more than a character) because I love Corvette Stingrays. He's not a stingray, but he is a Corvette, and thats enough for me (plus he is decked out in weapons).
I'd like to get more of them someday, though they take up a lot of space. I always wanted Skids, Optimus, Mirage and Battle Ravage (Because he represents covert agent Ravage of the Predacon Secret Police).
It was a shame that Hasbro was so wierd about weapons at the time. Like with Windcharger, coming with a long barrel in the Binaltech line making his engine and drive shaft into some sort of rifle, but only coming with the engine piece in the Alternators line, making his engine block turn into a handheld engine block.

Funnily enough I always wanted Battle ravage but took too long on doing anything about it, missed my chance. I was never really sold on Optimus or Jazz. (What was with the red zoom zoom any way? Or whatever it was called.) My opinion on Optimus has changed now through older eyes. Maaaaaaybe having that figure as a new representation of Hoist for the Renegade rp (Suggested by Jazz) has also softened that as well.. Still like the Shockave one, which I have and try to keep it in the "Are all dead" pose from the original Marvel comics cover (US: #5, UK: #22). I've always had trouble getting the legs back the right way for Smokescreen/silver streak though - when changing to alt mode. Gotta love the plastic strip with the magnets that made the wheels turn together the same way too.

I have a few of these guys. My favourite one was Tracks. I think they made an interesting enough toy with him.
I can't say I was impressed with them. Sure as far as the complexity was top notch, as for original designs I didn't seen much that impressed me. When it comes to Sideswipe or Jazz I don't think they really stand the test of time.
