GOOGLE THE WORD SLAG! When Hasbro choose that name they didn't think of what it meant in England. To be fair, I don't think Slag was used much as an insult over here in the 80's (Not that I know much about the 80's, only caught the last 3 years). So when the Dinobots were first created, it wasn't an issue. And it really annoys me, Slag is a great name for a Dinobot.

GOOGLE THE WORD SLAG! When Hasbro choose that name they didn't think of what it meant in England. I meant, I don't understand why the fine people across the pond have associated slag with an unsavory woman. But, Hasbro serves an international market, and there are several places where it has a negative meaning.

England had nothing to do with Transformers and what they are today! Actually, your forgetting about the TF comics produced over there during the 80's and Simon Furman contributions to TF lore from the 80's to the present day. GOOGLE THE WORD SLAG! When Hasbro choose that name they didn't think of what it meant in England. Actually it was properly Marvel editor Bob Budiansky who thought up the name since he came up with many of the names and personalities of the Transformers. I don't know how many he made after the first batch or who helped him later on but the Dinobots weren't that far from the beginning. And Budiansky has a education is science from his school days and that helped with a lot of the technical information we see in the tech specs. Well if you are discussing names for slug why would it be the slag maker, he doesn't melt people, if you were living up to a namesake he'd be "The Shishkebaber" or "BatterHorn" because all I remember is checking the data logs in Fall of. Cybertron and it said the low profile and dense head makes for a good ramming device Slag original function was the Flamethrower. MARVEL'S TRANSFORMERS UNIVERSE PROFILE Profile: Maybe Slag enjoys his job too much- after all, a more sensitive Autobot might regret the waste involved in reducing an enemy to a smoldering pool of liquid metal. Not Slag. If his metal hide could take the heat, Slag would swim in the puddle to celebrate. Perhaps even more than his Dinobot brethren, Slag resents the authority of Optimus Prime, and he's not too keen on the other Autobots either. He's generally considered a disruptive force and has been known to get into brawls and turn his fiery breath against his comrades. Nasty and mean-spirited are perhaps the nicest things one can say about him. Abilities: In Dinobot mode, Slag can spew from his mouth a bolt of 3,000 degrees Centigrade flame up to 80 feet. He possesses enormous strength and can shatter a brick building with a single blow from his armored head. In Autobot mode he carries a high-energy laser rifle. I know he's changed and it seems Grimlock stole his flamethrower for the game (actually Grimmy spat fire in the original cartoon too) but this is what Slag was all about originally.

Look up the American meaning of Slag. Hasbro made Transformers what they are today. Slag as a word is what it is. Stony waste thats involved with ore. What it means in England shouldn't be a factor.England had nothing to do with Transformers and what they are today! This is so lame on to many levels.... Here a great example......You ready!? F**! A bushel of sticks.A cigarette. Wtf Ppl.Stop being sissy lala's. Watch the 'tude dude. Apart from the long running comics that continued well after the US run ended. (Some might say they ran a little too long however!) Now that might only be a small factor as a whole, but don't say completely nothing. Yes US/Japan was the major dominate factor overall but Transformers was still popular in the UK in the late 80's because of the comics, despite how crappy the toys were getting.

I think England, or better some English ppl, have made huge contributions to TF. We wouldn't have Impactor, the Wreckers or the God like origins of Primus and Unicron. SF gave a lot to TF lore.
