So yesterday marked the 30th birthday of our beloved Transformers franchise when the first 4-part comic was released in the US, which in turn would lead to a generation of cartoons and toys. The first introduction of the comic in the shops was overseen by Bill Mantlo and Ralph Macchio, with Frank Springer, Kim DeMulder and Nelson Yomtov; overseen by Michael Higgins and Rick Parker (Thus all overseen by Bob Budiansky). The cover was A gigantic Bill Sienkiewicz-drawn Optimus Prime.

If you're and original old skool'er what are your early memories to mark this historic landmark?
For me it started with the cartoon's first, getting up religiously early every Saturday (Even though I didn't have to) to watch them, this in turn led me to the comics and getting them every weekend and looking forward to them coming through the front door as well. In turn this led to the toys obviously, but we were a single parent family; so mostly mine were minibots. Until that day by father brought me a Hoist figure one birthday/or Christmas, my first proper sized figures. I still have fond memories of getting it and sitting behind the sofa applying the decals/stickers. Unfortunatley when I was deemed "Too old for them" I was forced to give alnost all my toys away. At senior school I swapped the comics for another UK cult comic (2000AD), and although the Transformers was still in my heart this is where the break began to happen in my Transformers History.
During my collage years I saw a Genereration 2 comic in the newsagents but this was the poor UK version and the second issue which wasn't a US reprint of their story. Suffice to say with the UK version, the art was poor, it felt really kiddy and I was not impressed wondering if that was it for me and Transformers. I have a brief recollection of seeing a boit of a Beast Wars episode one Saturday that I caught by accident, but at the time I didn't care for the animals aspect, even though as a later adult I would go on to adore this series; so I missed most of Beast Wars as it wasn't for me. It wasn't until R.I.D. I got back into it when in a local UK shop (Now gone), I was curious what toys there were these days and whether they Transformers was still going. To my surprise I found the RID toys, especially the little spychangers 2 packs and bought up a couple of packs. Thus my love for Transformers came back - and collecting the toys again, now as an adult collector. When I got the internet The first thing I did was look for Transformers comics. In the past I had dreamed about the comics, "Finding one" in a newsagents with old back issues, holding one again and feeling the paper. After reading comics for hours on end to the early hours of the morning, I joined my first Transformers community, and in 2002 created this place.
If you weren't around at the beginning, what do you think of our beloved franchise hitting the 30 year anniversary? What were your first memories and experiences (Also when, what series?) of Transformers?
