Firstly, this isn't a "Should there be fembots" leading question, we've been there done that. (Thread in The Core if you can find it!) No, this is, if you were a writer, (or maybe you are?), how would you explain or write in the idea of fembots? (Also; femmebots, femme-bots and many other variations of.) We all know that Arcee was pretty much the "Princess Leia" of Transformers in the 86' movie, and so one idea I had was that there wasn't female bots until Earth to see how they interacted with the different genders of Earth - rather than Marvels "Trying to human feminists". The only trouble with that is the big glaring hole that id female bots being around in Alpha Trion's days back in the cartoon. (Elita- One, Chromia, Moonracer & Firestar et al) Of course now we have Windblade over-load, (I'm actually sick of hearing about her, she's been so over exposed, and I've not even read any of those comics with her in them!) In the wiki it mentions's Shockwave's statement of "Expressing surprise they aren't extinct". Concluding: - They were all built/"discovered" after the events of "The Search for Alpha Trion".
- Shockwave constantly calls them Autobots, never Transformers or Cybertronians. It is possible female Neutrals' (and the aforementioned female Decepticons') existence was never thought over... and that none of them changed allegiance any time recently.
- "Female Autobot" is not used as a description, but as the team's name.
- This is the Generation 1 cartoon. You're not watching it for the flawless storytelling.
Source: TF wiki.netThat they were "Neutrals" (Neither Autobot or Decepticon" in the Golden age of Cybertron is an appealing idea, that they've always been around but thought all gone after the first great war. So what are your thoughts and ideas, how would you explain or write in female transformers? (No copying your posts from the other thread! Fresh thoughts, fresh ideas please!)

If this was on me, I could not come up with a logical idea.
*rolls up newspaper as he's about to talk, just incase Tramp pops out of no where*
Considering TFs don't reproduce sexually, despite NON-CANON Japanese media, its hard to say why there would be male and female TFs. Except that Primus based his creations of already established life forms from other planets. if he had based them on humans, that might make sense seeing as TFs are human-like. But still, why bother with genders? In fact why not make up new genders.
….. yes I had to go there!

Ok I have no original ideas on this but after watching TF Elite I had to dive into the research. Looking at recent works I think two of them are the best. First IDW. There's the Simon Furman story of Acree where Jhiaxus introduces gender into the Cybertronian CNA. While I think this is reasonable I think there is the problem of the male gender in the Cybertronian race. I mean it's never stated that the existing Cybertronians were in fact male to begin with. Yes they are big, bulky robots but that doesn't make them male so to speak. We may view them as male, as we might view a robot in real life with the body of a male. Same as we might call a robot a 'female robot' or 'femmebot' that had the characteristics of a human woman. But that doesn't make them male or female, not until you take a closer look as you might do so with a animal. What I'm saying for gender to be introduced into the Cybertronian race you have to introduce both male and female. I think Simon was working of the original idea from the Marvel continuity that Transformers are genderless. Even in the UK version they were genderless until Arcee was created for the sake of Transformers and human relations. Second the Aligned universe. And I'm coping and pasting it because I can't explain it any better in my own words…. I sort of like how in the Aligned universe that the female Cybertronians are the creators. Of course we have seen all sorts of Transformers characters create one thing or another, so to introduce this now is sort of too late. Of course it can be argued that male Transformers simply learned to create and use their creativity as well, maybe females are just better at the craft. What I really like is how the Cybetronains looks to other races to discover who they were and how they fit into the universe. After all they were created right on the spot and given some intelligence and awareness, which for some lead to arrogance and a serious downfall. I think it's sort of fitting for a robotic life-form to look at organic female from another galactic race, identify with them and adapt what they are to the identity of the life-form they are studying. Transformers have done that before with some of there characters, Bumble Bee, Hound, Skids and Jazz have an affection for earth culture and their inhabitance. EDIT:: Forgot to add this, apparently Ratchet was almost made a female Cybertronian. Bob Budiansky's original handwritten bio for Ratchet

I'm not keen on that aligned theory personally, but I do like them looking to other races and identifying it and maybe building their own versions. Until the 86' movie I grew up as just seeing them as robots (Autonomous robotic life-forms) rather than he and she.

Ah true. But I could be wrong, that was my interpretation of the information. And I haven't read the book yet so it may not have carried throughout the rest of the book or it may have manifested differently through out the ages.

I like to think the reasons femmes are rare is: The Great War, population of billions reduced to maybe a few thousand at best. Only the best and the toughest survived. What we typically identify as male are tougher/faster/stronger than female. This is of course a generalization. Also the whole Transformer story if we accept it to be real is translated into english and other earth languages for the benefit of humans. Stuff like transformers gender may simply be poor translation or understanding. Femmes are near extinction but so was the whole transformer race and mostly those WE identify as male survived so far.

Funnily Enough I've just watched "The Search For Alpha Trion" again and wiah to make an amendment:
"They were all built/discovered" after the events of "The Search for Alpha Trion".
to:
"They were all built/discovered" after the events of "The Search for Alpha Trion".
Reguardless to how there was a couple of lines that really struck me. When in Shockwave's base on Cybertron he says something like "So female Autobots still exist" to which she replied "And we always will.." Now this got me thinking.
At first my initial thoughts were they were like some sort of experiment that had managed to escape into Cybertron, but then with their underground base I had a second (Preferred thought) that regardless of gender, of what we perceive as, they came of to me as some sort of specialist/elite forces/underground network movement! That I liked, and that they weren't treated as weak needing the Autobots to "save them". Right from the off they were tough, independent femmemechs! Especially - fighting SHockwave one of the mother of all Decepticons and trying to break free of their Destroyed base. Yes they did seek guidance from Alpha Trion, but it was still them themselves who got them out not any Bulkier Autobots. Even coming as back up to those bulkier mechs towards the end when they were engaged in battle with the Decepticons.
