Okay all of this talk of Combiner Wars and Third Party Transformers and seeing all the goodies on the web, I need the opinions of you wonderful people. I had a pretty extensive collection from G1, to Universe, to Generations until I had to sell it all back in 2013. I have yet to purchase any CW figures or Third Party figures, let alone any transformers since 2013. Not because I can't but because I really haven't had it in me to start over since I sold my collection. Right now I collect Hotwheels, Star Wars figures, Star Trek figures, WWE figures, Thundercats figures and a sprinkle of other things here and there from the 80s. When I look on the web I see some pieces here and there that really make me want to grab some Transformers toys. I hold back though when I go in stores and there isn't much available. The shelves are always full of the same old same old and I guess people have already bought up the good stuff to sell themselves. Online I guess prices are a bit steeper than I want to spend on a figure that I am not all that impressed with and the ones I am run pretty high. With all of this being said whether I find it in store or online, what Combiner Wars figure should I grab as my first figure? Now keep in mind I don't plan to fully invest in this line like I once did for Transformers. So I am talking about maybe four good figures I may want to get. Or should I buckle down and save my money for 3rd Party TF? If I did go the 3rd party route I am looking at probably only getting two figures this year, and go from there in 2016. On that 3rd party list I would have start off with 3rd party Rodimus and Galvatron for my Christmas/Birthday gift to myself, if I went that route. So what do you say gang, what should I do, where should I start? or am I just a lost cause?

If you're going to go down the CW route, I'd say get 5 figures so you can have a full combiner, maybe 6 if you want one of the Legends class figures to complete the combiner. I don't have any of the CW figures, yet, so I can't really comment on them. But you wouldn't want, say, Superion missing and arm or a leg.
As for 3rd party figures, I have a fair few of them. From FansProject I have M.A.D.L.A.W. aka Quickswitch and SmartRobin aka Brainstorm. Of those two, I'd recommend SmartRobin. He's just got such a cool transformation. From ToyWorld, I have Hardbone aka Hardhead and Swamper aka Skullcruncher. Both of those are pretty cool. Nice transformations, but some posing options are limited (doesn't affect me too much, I've just got them stood normally). From Perfect Effect, I've got Assault Force X aka Reflector. That one is fantastic. Scouting Force X is based on the animation model of Reflector and Assault Force X is based on the actual figures. Finally, from BadCube, I've got Cyclone aka Shrapnel, Hypno aka Bombshell and Kickbutt aka Kickback. I really like those three, but I did have a couple of issues. I had to take apart one of Cyclone's arms because I got his fist stuck and I had to take apart one of Kickbutt's legs because the teeniest, tiniest piece of plastic had been inserted upside down and prevented the leg from collapsing for transformation. Also, the ball-joints for Kickbutt's shoulders are INSANELY tight! Which has lead to some issues getting the arms into the right place for transformation. The prices for the 3rd party figures are quite a bit more, as you've probably seen, but the transformations are usually more involved and the figures themselves are more detailed and have far less hollow areas that a lot of official figures have now. If you do go 3rd party, I'd say stick with only 2 or 3 a year, otherwise your back account will hate you.

I usually watch reviews of Transformers before I buy them. There's been a few 3rd party figures I've liked the look of, but then I've seen the transformation of them and they look so difficult and fiddly and just not fun to transform.

I wish a 3rd Party Dai Atlas would be made.

Well, from the looks of one of your earlier posts (the one with the 3rd party Dinoking), they are. The link mentions a Dai Atlas based Warbot from FansProject. The last three Warbots they released were based on Roadbuster and Rack'n'Ruin.

Yeah I saw him and he looks okay, probably the best a Dai Atlas fan can hope for. However it seems like just a remold then repaint of Trianix Alpha. I have dreams of a G1 looking Dai Atlas that is supposed to be the size of a Gestalt (Combiner), if not that at least a IDW accurate one like in my sig. Either way Dai Atlas deserves much better than a simple remold/repaint, I guess I am wanting a little too much huh? Take a look at Trianix.... too too similar.

If you want to get back in with a bang, you can't go wrong with CW Devastator. He is massive, and pretty cool. Not perfect, but pretty fun. All the CW Combiners are pretty great as well.

I saw two different variants for CW Megatron the other day...one was called Armageddon Megatron and I was like whoa...lol. However, I'm reluctant to start collecting these again, or any kind of toys really, mainly becaue of space and because of "this is nice but it's really not useful" kind of thing. I'd rather collect games and game systems than action figures too, but I do enjoy looking at Transformers and other collectibles. Like I said in another thread, I used to have a large collection of My Little Pony toys, but I had t get rid of all of them because I was moving and didn't have room for them. What should I do? At least I have a Transformers lanyard with G1 Optimus and Megatron on it. Got it from Spencers a few weeks ago.
