While Optimus Prime has been a truck for most of his incarnations, Megatron has been able to Transform into several different things.
First a gun. Then a tank when G2 came out. And then in Beast Wars he was a T-Rex. From there we have seen him as a tank, a jet and other things. Which one do you like best?

Huh, I never realized that Megatron has more altmode changes then OP does!
Jet, hands down for me. Agile, mobile with the ability to strike whenever and wherever he wants makes for a nasty Megatron who has a sharp tactical mind. He makes a tough opponent, especially if you're restricted to the ground while he's somewhere up there.

I personally prefer a tank rather relying on another TF to shoot you, but then I'm heavily biased because I love the US G2 comics!
I did like the jet mode in Energon however and the helicopter hybrid thing in Animated was okay.I wasn't keen on a land mode like in Cybertron but then that toy was awful because of the coloring as well as why a vehicle mode? Military vehicle yes, not futuristic car thing.

I like the Tank the best. The gun doesn't make sense to me. Basically it doesn't do anything except shoot, and while I've read that fans have agreed that when in gun mode Megatron shoots a more powerful and concentrated laser beam, it's never really been seen or proven.
I do like the jet as well. But I sort of feel that since OP is a truck that Megs should be something that counters OP's truck mode. So a tank or a jet works for me.

it's never really been seen or proven. The only time that really happened (in the cartoon anyway) was TF:TM, but even then completely contradicted by the amount of times characters got shot by gun-mode Megatron and just shrugged it off. For me, it's a toss-up between tank or jet. Jet because Decepticons have a theme of air superiority and a lot of them have airborne alt modes. Tank, because the leader of the Decepticons should have some serious firepower in his alt mode, and what screams "Oh frak!" more than a tank?

*Ahem* Where is Dragon?
So, I feel uncomfortable lumping BW Megatron in with any other Megatron. I'd say Tank for any Megatron that is not BW Megatron.

Ooops! Forgot about that, but a dragon is sort of like a T-Rex. It just spits fire like Godzilla and he's a mega-dinosaur!
I would put BW Megs in there, this isn't restricted to G1 Megs and the Megatron is each series is different from other Megatron. Plus BW didn't start off as connected to G1. This thread is more about what is appropriate for Megatron, or Megatrons in general.

Think we are missing some options. Brainstorm (both toy and show): G1 - Gun G2 - Tank, Car (Gobot) MW - Jet BW - Alligator, T-Rex, Dragon BM - Dragon, Giant Head RID - Dragon/Race Car/Bat(Gargoyle)/Jet/Giant Hand Armada - Tank Energon - Jet Cybertron - Race Car/Jet Movies - Pile-o-bits (Jet), Pile-o-scrap (Tank), War Rig (Semi) Animated - Helicopter (of sorts) WFC/FoC - Tank Prime - Jet Devastation - Tank I think my vote must go to Megadrive, though

Hahaha! Wow, what is that thing? Granted I've only played on one SEGA console before, everything else has been Sony or Nintendo. Tank is a very close second for me, giving a military power feel to it. Still like go for the jet mode. Definitely not a car for Megatron. That's just too... normal? not intimidating? For someone like him.

Hahaha! Wow, what is that thing? It's the Sega Megadrive, known as the Genesis in the States.
