Hello one and all and welcome to the dangerous world of the Renegades. To all new comers, this is the thread where Hoist and myself shall endeavor to answer any questions you might have about the next rpg. But also, this my opportunity to explain to everyone how this rpg runs, so that when your designing your character, it can be done as fast a possible. So here goes!
If you have looked at the new Tech Spec and Character Creation Guide for 2010, that will be the new guides we'll be using. Tech Spec Version 6, 2010 and Character Creation Guide, 2010
For all characters, unless their GM characters, the point scheme is this...
44 Tech Spec points
9 Weapons/Tools/Equipment/Special Abilities/Powers points
2 Freebies that can be used either with the Tech Spec or for Weapons and etc.
In the New Cybertron thread, located in this forum, I have listed some of the functions available to players. You can make up your functions but lets keep them limited to one per character and realistic. Medic Snipers won't fly. Plus I'm going to operate on something like a first come first serve basis. Meaning if I get 5 profiles with the same function, the first person who gets it to me gets to keep their function. Of course this doesn't always apply to every function, can't have too many warriors but too many strategic commanders won't fly.
Now, as for the Biography and History sections of the Tech Specs, I ask that you keep things within the history of this rpg. Check the New Cybertron thread for that. In this rpg, everyone plays on the same side, your all Autobot/Renegades. I don't have the time to run a two sided rpg plus, and perhaps more importantly, form past experiences of doing so, many players only read the threads they post in.
So as for ex-Decepticons becoming Autobots, I think I'm going to have say no. The reason why is one, in this rpg, Decepticon presence across the galaxy is extremely low. Plus, and more importantly, their a security risk. Of course their have always been traitors in the history of war, but they don't usually fight along side the team they have defected too, they usually give up information and are given political annuity where they can't be found. The trust issues are too high plus I've run into power gamers that tend to use this to their advantage.
The Renegades rpgs have been loosely based on the G1 show. Reason why, the G1 show was very open to possibilities and the story wasn't quite so tight as the comics. We do include some comic in though. We also included the Beast Wars. Now this is 10 million of years later and Cybertron has been with the major conflict of war. A lot of bad things tend to happen off world, check Bomblast's Roadtrain for an example of a rare Decepticon occurrence. Your character won't be a war-torn Vet. Their rather young and while inexperienced, your not wet behind the ear, unless of course you want to play a newbie. As for combat, I'll allow a couple of situations your characters could have been involved in, but your no war hero.
As I said this rpg in the extreme future of G1. However your character is an original character, no one from the TF universe. No Hot Rod, Jazz or Chromedome. These characters are off limits because most of them are either dead, retired or their actually going to make a special appearance along the way.
Back to the Tech Specs. Rank will be assigned by the GM so you don't have to worry about spending points on that. Rank refers to your position on the Renegade team and within their base however, certain section with in the base may out rank you. What I mean is, while a high ranking Renegade may out rank a scientist, if your in their lab, chances are they ain't going to listen to your orders. Also keep in mind with your history and functions that just because you may have had a high ranking role form a previous time, it doesn't mean you will be given a high rank here. A lot of it will depend on your character and how they act. My character Computic might have a rank of 6, but if he screws up on a mission or loses his cool and fights among his fellow Renegades, chances are he'll get busted down to a 3 or lower. This isn't to punish or award players, this is just for fun to keep things interesting.
Courage. Make it anything you want. Everyone runs around brave in all the rpgs I've been in and I see no point chasing after players and telling them "Well its time you act scared now" That might actually freeze up the story! I do ask that you be realistic about and use it to guide your characters emotional response to certain situations.
Weapons. Everyone buys their weapons and the fire powers are fixed. No need to spend points on the actually fire power strength. Within the story, a player may change their weapons and rearm themselves. Meaning if your unhappy with your flame thrower and axe, head on over to Hoist's H-Lab and restock yourself. Or maybe you need to go on a sniper mission? Turn in your heavy blaster for now and grab a sniper canon. Of course, the 9 weapon points are the limit. You can not add on and on and on. Unless your Hoist, he's the arms master after all.
So I hope that helps. I know I sound like I'm being tough, but this is just so we can all understand each others and open communications. Plus I think I'm a fair guy, I often allow players to kick a lot of ass. I don't think I've covered everything and I may have to make adjustments along the way. So if their any questions, ask away! And if you want to start turning out characters now, make them in Character Development and I'll gladly have a look.
Cheers!
