outside of those... anything is better edited... anything except that stupid song... I got it stuck in my head now... darn it!

My friends and I would all agree that rap music sucks monkey. I hate it all. Rap just influences ignorance in our society. All I hear now is "bling bling". Almost all the songs are about drugs, violence or inapproapriate sexual behavior. I prefer Classic Rock over anything. I do understand that rock music isn't exactly the best influence either but, rap is 100 times worse.

[glow=blue,2,000]I have never heard a more hypocritical statement in my life. Rock, classic or modern is full of drugs, sex, violence and inapproapriate behaviour. How can one be judgemental of Hip Hop when most music, especially music geared to young people be singled out as the most influential? If you don't like Hip Hop/rap fine, I don't care for the stuff in vidoes or on the radio but to say it influences ignorance in our society is ignorant in its self.
The world was bad before Hip hop and will be bad when hip hop is done with. Hip hop came from the ghetto of new york. The ghetto was bad without hip hop music. When the culture started, and yes it is a culture, it was an alternative for many ghetto youths instead of getting involved with drugs or gangs and still does that today. Hip hop isn't bad, the music industry controls it and controls what you see or hear, especially in this day and age. For every gangster or pimp rapper out there, their is a MC who is the positive oppisite of that person. You don't hear about him because he ain't signed and isn't marketable in the sence of what the music company wants, the bling bling.
Just so you know, there are a huge group of positive hip hop artists out there....
KRS-One, Public Enemy, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, De La Soul, Jungle Brothers, Tribe called Quest, The Roots, J-Live, Jurassic 5, Aceyalone and the Freestyle Fellowship, Common (Sence), Blackalicious, Latyrx (My name sake), Rock Steady Crew, Mr. Lif, Zion I, Pete Rock and C.L Smooth....
And the list goes on.[/glow]

I didn't target Hip-Hop, I actually like that. Rap is what I hate. I should have been more specific by saying "gangsta" rap. I stated that rock wasn't exactly the best influence but, it is less offensive than rap. "Gangsta" rap made Guns N' Roses look like pansies. Hip-Hop I do enjoy. Rap music in the 1980's was addictive, I cant get enough of that. It's just "gangsta" and today's rap I cant stand.
1. Sugar Hill Gang 2. Soul Sonic Force 3. Tyrone Brunson 4. Run DMC 5. Public Enemy
...and many more. Now stop biting my ankle,...it hurts.

[glow=blue,2,000]Rap and Hip Hop are the exact same thing. Just different names. It was mainly called Hip Hop more because when the media attacked Rap music it gave it a bad name and as well the term Rap Music didn't cover the culture well enough. Hip Hop includes break dancing, grafiti art and DJing and many more elements.
Now bling bling isn't just present in gangsta rap but alot of it is what you hear on the radio, see in vidoes and r&b. As for gangsta rap being worse the rock, have a look at Marilyn Manson and Slipknot.
And Tyrone Brunson is not a Hip Hop artist. And I'm not biting your ankle or attacking you, don't make yourself a victem when this is a simple and civil debate.[/glow]

To debate is a privilage that comes with intelligence of the topic at hand.... and differences shouldn't be taken personally... Ignorance of a topic, breeds ignorance I'm afraid... so let's try to educate ourselves without prejudices... okay
I think I'm a fairly rounded person when it comes to music... I listen to all sorts.... opera, classical, gypsy, rock, classic rock, religious music, country, metal, hip hop, even gansta music....
I've heard Marilyn Manson and Slipknot... I've even made myself listen to an interview with Marilyn Manson... just to see what he has to say for himself... I understand that he feels it's his job to cause anxiety in others and to force them to think about things that are usually left unsaid... but at the same time, I find that there are better ways to say those things.... rather than using the shock approach....
... and no I won't let my children listen to him or others like him... it is my responsibility as a parent to make sure that my children have a well rounded education in all aspects... but they don't need extra outside influences like him... life as a kid is hard enough, dealing with your friends et all... let alone being freaked out by the likes of MM and SK....
If you want the positive and negative of life you'll find it in every kind of music, as seen in every walk of life... rap/hip hop isn't the only kind of music that deals with such things... and shouldn't be singled out entirely...
even my 12 year old, TA, knows the difference between the gansta music and the more regular stuff
... but to be fair... all music is influential... it just depends on which influence you choose to follow... and how you differenciate between right and wrong...

"Can't we all just get along? ? ? ?"
I can't STAND christian music, can't stand Mariah Carey, can't stand Britney Spears, can't stand N-Sync, can't stand Backstreet Boys......

It's ok, Lust... just sometimes people take things more presonally than the comments are intended...
Debating is healthy and allows us to get to know each other better...
... It's all good in the end
