MISSION DESIGNATION: “A VIEW TO DIE FOR”
MISSION LOCATION: The Tenement Blocks- originally intended as a solution to the ever present housing demand in Iacon, the area is now poor, run down, and crime ridden. Straxus’s brutal ‘Peacekeepers’ maintain curfews and strict new Decepticon laws with extreme prejudice.
MISSION TYPE: RECRUITMENT
MISSION TARGET: Stryke, an Autobot scout. Waylaid by seeker patrols and unable to participate in Operation: Plaugeswarm, the operative retreated to Iacon and hid in the tenement blocks. However, he was ratted out by neighbours in his building and he is now under siege by the peacekeepers.
MISSION NOTES: Operatives will receive air evac from the target location once all air support and anti-air batteries have been removed. Operatives are advised to prioritise these targets.
+++
CRASH!! Another artillery shell crashed through the wall of Stryke’s hideout. Splinters and rubble were sent flying around the room, and a fresh layer of dust was dislodged from the roof. Stryke could hear a Decepticon with a megaphone from the base of the building he was in, three stories down. “THIS IS YOUR LAST WARNING, SIR! COME OUT WITH YOUR HANDS UP! WE PROMSE NOT TO HURT YOU! …Much, hehe…” He was holed up inside the rundown building, five stories high, with Decepticons covering all obvious exits. He was, to all intents and purposes, trapped.
+++
Nexus and Smokescreen came out from the manhole at the end of the street. Pulling Smokescreen up, Nexus could see the siege taking place a singe blocks away, and could easily spot that about ten Decepticons, plus a large artillery piece, were taking pot-shots at a large hole in the wall on the third floor. He turned to his companion. “They’ve got the front entrance covered. We need to get to Stryke- how are we even supposed to get in?”

Stryke moved a little way down the length of the building, peeked around a corner using his sniper rifle and fired at a Decepticon, sending a limb flying.
"Why don't you come in here and get me!" He yelled back.
Stryke moved quickly from where he took his shot. One rule that had been drummed into him in Basic was to move after every shot, keep the enemy guessing.

"We'll have to divide their forces, what we need is a distraction! And there aint nobody better at distracting than me!", enthused the Autobot, "Only trouble is they might see through it, which means you need to be somewhere else, trying to get into that Tenement Block.. If they think I'm alone and just trying to play the hero, they're less likely to suss it being a deceptive move..."
Smokescreen looked around, "Know what I don't like about this place? Everything. It's so run down, there could be hundreds, more, Decepticons lying waiting - in any building, in any place,"

Nexus nodded. "I'll get to cover and hide, whilst you distract as many as you can. I should be able to slip in unnoticed- good luck, partner!" With that, he sprinted across from their current position and slid into cover behind a pile of rubble, drawing his handgun and waiting for Smokescreen to make his move. +++ Up on Stryke's floor, the walls were being peppered with rifle bullets, sometimes piercing the wall and ricocheting off the walls. Somehow, one of the Decepticons on the ground had managed to get hold of a grenade launcher, and had taken a shot through the crater the artillery had made. Following his lead, several more of the crew had grabbed grenades from their belts and hurled them into the crater. Three of them actually made it inside, rolling across the floor close to Stryke...

Stryke cursed and activated his Speed Boost. He sprinted away from the grenades, heading deeper into the building. The grenades detonated and the blast launched Stryke through a door. He hit the ground hard. It took him a moment to regain his senses and grab his weapon. Staggering to his feet, Stryke pointed his weapon back the way he came, knowing the he wouldn't be able to see anything at ground level do to his position. At this point, he started to think he might be in trouble.

Smokescreen ran to the corner of a nearby ruined building and peeked round the corner, the Decepticons. From where he was situated, they'd spot him for sure. carefully he made his way quickly around the other sides of the building, so he was down at the far end and nearer the targets, just around the corner. One was helping the other wounder whilst another still held a megaphone, looking like they were about to retaliate heavily. From a storage area inside him, he grabbed a flash bang grenade and pressed down on the button on the top. A ring or red lights flashed around the sides of the grenade, and without time to hesitate, he peeked round the corner and lobbed it the the hole in one of the walls at the Decepticons...

At first, the Decepticons continued firing their blasters into the building.Quickly, however, one of the troops looked down at his feet. "GRENADE!!" Without time to react, the cons clutched their heads as a massive flash and crack exploded from the small device at their feet. The three closest collapsed immediately, and the wounded bot with only one arm was blinded and crashed into a wall as he attempted to charge at the thrower of the grenade. The leader, megaphone discarded, rubbed his optics in an attempt to regain his vision, and pointed dangerously close to where Smokescreen was hiding. "It came from there! Light 'em up!" The remaining six bots turned their guns on the saboteur's position, and fired wildly through partially blinded eyes. +++ Nexus saw his chance as the fire of the peacekeeper squad was drawn. Moving silently around the group, he sprinted towards the side of the building adjacent to the one Stryke was in. Gaining enough momentum to sprint up the side of the building and pushed off against the concrete surface and propelled himself in through a first floor window. Making straight for the stairs, he hurried up towards the third floor as fast as he could... +++ Stryke would see the shadows cast by the flashbang, and hear the hurried footsteps coming up the stairs. Unfortunately, the artillery piece was still firing into the building unaffected by the stun grenade, sending huge shells crashing through the rooms.

Stryke made his way over to a window that had yet been hit by the artillery. Pulling his rifle into his shoulder, he took at the gunner operating the artillery.
"Chew on this, slag sucker." He whispered as he pulled the trigger.

Smokescreen took a few hits to his rather broad chest as he swung back around the corner and pulled out his blaster. At beast he only had a few clicks until the effects wore off, but it was more than he needed to try and take out a couple at least. The rest he'd have to figure out as he went along, the odds out numbered him. Although there was no time to tell how many where there, he did see a good few, but then what was a mission without a little danger?...

The artillery gunner jerked and slid off the gun, the bullet having struck him straight through the head. As he died, Nexus hurtled up the last flight of steps and saw Stryke take the shot. He grinned as he finally saw the Autobot scout in the armor. "Nice shot. Looks like I picked the right bot!" +++ The bots being attacked by Smokescreen were demoralized by the death of their main attack force, but reacted quickly- taking cover by the artillery piece, they split their force, the three with better recovered vision shooting up to take out the sniper, two still partially blinded continuing to shoot inaccurately at the saboteur on the ground. The captain activated his comm, speaking in rushed tones. "Captain Nitrofax reporting! We have four bots down, the rest incapacitated! Requesting backup in the form of seekers and extra artillery pieces, over!"

Stryke remained focused on the Decepticons on the ground. He didn't look at Nexus, but still replied.
"Thanks. You and your friend showed up at the right time. A few more days and I'd have been in trouble."
Stryke ducked to avoid a few stray shots, then took aim again, trying to find the leader.

Nexus smiled and drew his A-30 JAZZ. With the help of Smokescreen's fire on the ground, the three Autobots proceeded to pick off the remaining peacekeepers; the captain was the last to fall, finally silenced by a shot to the throat. Nodding to Stryke, Nexus moved to the crater in the wall at the front, spotted Smokescreen, and beckoned for him to join them in the building. ++COMM-SMOKESCREEN++ "Come on up, my friend- reinforcements could be here any minute. We need to speed things up and meet up with the gunship on the roof; from their, extraction should be a cakewalk." ++END COMM++ He turned to Stryke again and offered his hand. "I'm Nexus- people seem to have decided that I am the leader of the Autobots in Iacon. Stryke, I presume?"

Stryke lowered his weapon and clasped Nexus' hand.
"Yeah, I'm Styke. So you're Nexus? I wish I hadn't been delayed before..." He trailed off. "Well, if I hadn't, I might not be here now."

Smokescreen transformed and veered over to the others, returning to robot form upon his arrival. "So this is the mech we've been sent to pick up? I hope he's worth all this trouble..." remarked the Autobot.

Swift grinned when Smokescreen arrived and spoke.
"I'm probably better than they say, I don't like you brag, you know? What's say we leave all this talk for the moment and get to the roof? I don't really want to be here when reinforcements show up, they might want me to pay their repair bill."
