What do you mean by lost the name rights? Other shows have a hot rod? Even though I still think thats not a good enough reason

[glow=blue,2,000]It means either they didn't renew the copyright or the rights were bought out by another toy company. Considering its Hasbro and Taraka who own some the rights and then Dreamwave comes into play... man, ownership could land all over the place. [/glow]

I think Rowdy Rowdy Piper should sue Hasbro because he had the whole hot rod thing going on way before hasbro came up with hot rod.

Is that why Rodimus Major appears on some toy boxes?

[glow=blue,2,000]Yes.
I think the term of phrase 'Hot Rod' didn't come from Mr. Piper....[/glow]

[glow=blue,2,000]Yes. I think the term of phrase 'Hot Rod' didn't come from Mr. Piper....[/glow] Yeah but Piper had Hot Rod on his shirt way before they ever used it on the toy.

So I think thats where they got it from. My theroy is that Hasbro was looking for names for there new Transformers coming out and one of them was watching wrestling and saw Pipers shirt and came up with the idea to name one of them Hot Rod. If you look at Pipers shirt the name Hot Rod is in red and yellow and what are the colors of the Transformers Hot Rod: red and yellow. Think about it.

[glow=blue,2,000]But its a term for modified cars. Most likely Roddy's shirt is a car shirt and he used it cause of his name. Do a google image search for Hot Rod and you'll see alot of cars with the same flame designs that Hot Rod has.[/glow]

Agreed.
They still have Shockwave cause Tidalwave is Shockwave in Japan (the takara version). I think Onslaught was lost because of the Marvel uber villain from the 90s

And besides this name thing is interesting, you guys knew GI Joe has Joes named Sideswipe and Shockwave? Can't remember who else... but there were also Renegades![/glow] ;D

Actually, Hasbro lost the rights to names like Jazz and Hound because those were already words long before Hasbro was founded, while something like "Arcee" was a made-up word that they had fair dibs on. This is also why Bluestreak was renamed Silverstreak; one was in common usage already, the other was not. The problem with G1 versus everyone else is that you'd have one Prime and one Megatron fighting off like a dozen other Primes and Megatrons... a lot of whom are much bigger... Although the Beast wars guys are so damn small they wouldn't make a difference But Starscream's damn mutant indestructible spark would end up being the only one standing, so I guess G1 would score a Pyrrhic victory...
