My thoughts:
I enjoyed it! Wouldn't mind seeing it again.
I wouldn't say I came out saying OMGmazeballz!, but I enjoyed it and it was the film it needed to be, it felt like a Star Wars film! I can see what people mean about the similarities/borrowing heavily from the 977 but it did't take away anything for me. The only disappointing thing is Luke only being in it for a minute at the end, but hopefully he take more of a role in the next one.
On to more in depth!
I liked Daisy Ridley as Rey and the mystery around her character, I wouldn't be surprised if she was a Skywalker but I took Luke's troubled face as also probably feeling Leia's grief as he would've felt Han's death no matter how far away he was because of the force of course. John Boyega did a great job and Adam Driver was okay as Kylo Ren, I really liked that he was Han and Leia's son and it gave Han lots to do in this film which was great with Harrison Ford being so prominent in the film. There wasn't much of a reaction to Han's death in the audience with me, probably because in one of the teasers we saw Rey over a body - so the whole Internet had already speculated he might die in this film, and I avoided all and every spoiler. So I do think when it came it was a surprise, but still shocking and sad of course. Perhaps that's why he decided to do it - one of those "I'll do it as long as you kill off my character" deals. I did almost have a moment when Han was in the Falcon and a little smile on his face - and at that precise moment a little bit of grit entered my eye - that's what it was honest! I felt sorry for Chewbacca and wished his gun rampage after Han died was longer but as the place was blowing up I guess it was as long as it needed to be.
Loved BB-8 right from the start.
The suprise for me was Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron, I really liked his character he had a bit of a charm and cockiness reminiscent of a young Han Solo. He was probably my favorite of the new characters. I could take or leave Supreme Leader Snoke and Captain Phasma could've been used a lot more. Mayve it's because of HD but the sets like the Falcon cockpit looked so shiny but still rustic and by shiny I mean all the reflections of the lights, they looked like real locations and places not sets. They all looked amazing. Unfortunately because of Carrie Fisher's past alcohol and substance problems it was maybe as well he part was limited seeing as he mouth hardly moved when she talked and obviously didn't sound like Leia anymore (Any I don't mean dropping the English-esq accent from the original trilogy.) I agree that it was a shame Luke Leia and Han were never all together for at least one scene.
