www.apple.com/trailers/paramount/startrek/If I may, I am curious as to who else is interested in the 11th Star Trek film, due for release in the year 2009. I am, like others, such as the one you call 'Hoist', others call 'Bones', however who I refer to as 'Dr. McCoy, very compelled to witness the new film in its entirety.
I have to say that I am quite satisfied in the selection of actors for most of the roles. Zachary Quinto isn't quite as handsome as myself however does prove to have sufficient features to bring a certain vulcanness to the role. I haven't drawn a conclusion to whether or not Chris Pine can portray a convincing Captain James T. Kirk, however I shall refrain from judgement until I have reviewed his performance.

Chris Pine is a bot too pretty for Kirk and much as I love Simon Pegg and his movies, I am highly skeptical of his Scotty and indeed this film.
I'm not totally against it as long as the story is good, I just can't help but have a very bad feelin' about this..

Chris Pine is a 'bot'? Hmm, perhaps after all it would be fitting that Captain Kirk be represented by an artificial life form. In my days on the Enterprise, I often heard many of the female crew members refer to him as a machine. I was always curious as to what this meant....
Interesting reply Doctor. And in fact, poetic as you have used a phrase from another science fiction franchise to cast your doubts about this film. My opinion is not the same however, for I feel this movie shall do well, much better then the trilogy of the other said sci-fi series.

[/b][/quote] If you mean the prequels, that won't be hard [to beat], they were petty abysmal. I just feel if they have to go "back" [star trek", then they've run out of material. Especially when a DS9 or Voyager movie would've been nice.

I haven't really been keeping up with the new movie, but I'm sure I'll get around to seeing it once its on DVD (I don't get to the theater very often).
I can't believe the backlash this movie is getting... reminds me of all the buildup to the 2007 TF movie. "I hate it" and "How dare they?" are on every freakin message board I've seen where this is a topic (present board excluded, of course).
It's fine to have doubts about a movie and its fine to really be excited for a movie. What bugs me is when those "haters" just don't stop... they keep posting and posting that their opinion and "vision" is correct and "true", while the makers of the movie and those fans who are actually *shudder* attempting to keep an open mind are delusional.
Am I personally happy with this Trek movie being a prequel-- not really. Like Hoist I would've liked something to do with an already established series like DS9 or Voyager; but also like Hoist if the movie tells a good story than more power to 'em.
I just wish more people would give "new" and "different" things a try. Who knows... one of these days we could have a new "Beast Wars" like-rebirth.

They could have also done something with the Titan... since they went through the trouble of holding a fan design contest for the new Luna Class, only to use it in the books...

I saw it some time ago and loved it! Btw there's a Star Trek convention two hours away from my house! I have to decide if I'm going or not... I guess I'd be an idiot not to go. A lot of great stars are going to be there.
