I know a bone of contention with collectors are that the figures - especially deluxes are getting smaller and smaller, so I ask did our figures get too big?
If we go back as far as R.I.D. figures so of those figures like Scavenger and Starscream are like bricks! (Although I think Screamer - brick with Gorilla arms was a voyager??) However, I compared the alt mode of RID Sideburn and ROTF bumblebee (The stealth one), and they're practically the same size in alt modes. I know some feel Trailcutter from Generations was considered small to some. Did are figures drastically decrease in size or is it just going back to what is was in G1 when they were small to start with? Animated scaling was horrid.
Keep in mind Hasbro's tried and tested method is always to release everything as a deluxe, only if they do well do we get later waves with up-scaled figures.

Animated scaling was horrid? You crazy! It, much like Beast Wars, had quite a consistent scale factor that made (most) figures fall in line about around what they were on screen. Exceptions being the more stumpy designs like Lugnut and Bulkhead, which should have both gotten a Leader class figure. At least there is a Leader Bulkhead that scales well with his teammates.
As for the question of the topic, it really isn't so much the scale that is the issue. BW and RID figure were, in fact, smaller figures, right around what Prime and DoTM produced that made everyone get into an uproar. The crux of the issue has been both over-simplification, and an increase in price all while coupled with the return to a smaller scale. BW and RID figures may have been smaller than later series, but they had engineering behind them, and were covered in paint applications to bring out all the intricate little details.
We were told that size was reduced for cost purposes, but then the price increased and quality decreased. We, as consumers, never saw any benefits from the downsize.

The first wave of Animated was, you had that beast Bulkhead the size of prowl, Bumblebee almost the same size as Prowl but twice as chunky! Don't forget the Leader Bulkhead didn't come out until later - which you needed to get some sort of scale like you said. You're right about the last bit though, the reduce in size then gives us horrible Hasbro unpainted taillights/lights, rims (Although can live with rims) and my most hated thing painted windows and/or normal windows with painted back windows. The thing with the smaller Beast Wars toys is a good point in that did the figures get too big?

Bumblebee and Prowl were more a problem with size-shifting in the cartoon than the toys being scaled incorrectly. There is no forgiving Lugnut and Bulkheads scaling issues, but otherwise, and excellent line with a nice scale.

Completely disagree. I think it's more (As I said earlier) Hasbro's "Release everything in wave #1 as a deluxe" standard policy, than anything to do with the cartoons personally. You must have noticed that over the years? Or maybe it's just a UK thing - we tend to get shafted a fair bit with Transformers!

Well, I said what I said because if you go look at the animation models standing next to each other, Prowl is significantly taller, but in vehicle mode, Bumblebee has more mass. There is a lot of mass shifting. So, it is then expected that two obvious deluxe class figures, Prowl and Bumblebee, aren't goign to scale correctly because of the mass shifting in the animation models between vehicle (Bumblebee > Prowl) to robot (Prowl > Bumblebee).

Thought about things. Size doesn't bother me.Price does. Its a factor to me. Perfect example would be the MP Autobots......vs.......Alternators.I have MP Sideswipe,Tigertracks,Prowl and Redalert.Yeah there KOs but just as good at half the price.$40......compared to about $70-$80. Alts were about $25 and are bigger then MP Autobots. Wish I had a G1 Autobot deluxe car to compare size to Generations deluxe.

If it's any comfort - I don't have a single MP! I would like to - but it's the cost as well for me. I can see me getting the KO's too, I ain't fussy!

What would br the class category for G1 figs? What do you mean? If you mean size classes, G1 didn't have them. Size classes didn't come about until Beast Wars with Basic-Deluxe-Mega-Ultra-Super tfwiki.net/wiki/Size_class

Well......what would be the class/sizes based on today's standards? Bumblebee would be a scout. Prime would be a ........don't know. Ultra Magnus a Leader.......Starscream a Voyager ........
