39 years ago a toy and cartoon line started empinating from japan about a race of Transforming robots (Guardians) from the planet Gobotron, fighting to protect Earth from their nemesis rivals The Renegades. Sounds familiar? Despite Transformers being the more sucessful robot series, Go-Bots debuted one year before in 1983 but never hit the heights of the more succesful Transformers series.
Everything you wanted to know about Go-Bots:
This excellent and very informative video came up in my recommended on YouTube. I had some knock-off (Robo-Machine) Go-Bots myself (And actually Leader-1) and saw the odd episode, but largegly didn't get invested because of the larger Transformers (Also Sccoter was annoying!). If I remember rightly one of the first earliest VHS tapes I remember being allowed to choose on a rental night was Challenge Of The Go-Bots. SO this video has told me things I was less knowledgeable on, there was alot more to the story but because Transformers came along it will always be known as the "Knock-off Transformers".
I always thoyght Turbo looked like a clown because of the red triangles on his head and natural black eye mask around his optics. There's a good point in the video, with 80#s revival (Stranger Things, Cobra kai) could there ever be a cartoon mass toy revival of Go-Bots with the 40th anniversary next year? Hasbro still have the rights, and continued to renew it - although I'm not sure how it currently stands, what are your thoughts?
