I think the only vehicle type he can't be is a military one. Optimus is suppose to be a leader who exhibits a lot of kindness so transforming into a tank, a bomber, a jet fighter wouldn't suit his character IMO.
In terms of an plane, Optimus could become a massive jet similar to what Jetfire turns into. Big and powerful. He could resize to carry others since he did have a trailer that did that. Or he has armour that could carry one or two Autobots.
As for sea base vehicle, maybe a hovercraft. I don't see Prime being a speed boat or a war ship of any kind. A aircraft carrier is too big though it would allow him to carry other Autobots. The hovercraft could be a large one to suit his size, carry a few Autobots and Optimus isn't all that fast in vehicle mode and a hovercraft isn't that fast as a speed boat or a hydrofoil type ship.
As for land based vehicles, instead of a truck he could be a large Hummer. While still a truck, it's closer to a pickup truck but looks different then the semi-truck Optimus transforms into. Its size could contribute to Optimus' size in robot mode but he would be shorter than his G1 form I would think. Now if he was a Monster truck, then he could still be a large robot but I think the association Monster trucks have with crushing smaller vehicles isn't something you'd associate with Optimus Prime. And I tend to think of the Dinobots as the ones to using a Monster truck mode if they ever abandoned their Dinosaur modes.
EDIT: A aircraft carrier would be suitable for the Ark. Of course most Autobots are cars but if they weren't or had shuttles to get around, then a aircraft carrier would work. And the name fits!

Latyrx7 was impressed with D-Fib's spirit. She took no garbage it seemed and she was clearly intelligent. "We're what people called Renegades. We're a gang of ex-Autobots and Decepticons who have come together because we're sick and tired of listening to what our leaders tell us what we must do. Actually, Buckshot and myself got tired of our last boss and ditched him and everyone else here came along for the ride."
Buckshot raised a hand to interrupt. Yeah, we were all prisoners on the prison moon of Cybertron. Locked up and frozen in Highram. Ain't nobody escape from there. But something is going on that we're not so sure about. Optimus Prime himself told us so when we were freed. Said something about a force so strong that he needed our help. Then everything went full void, some robots got killed and we made it out."
Latyrx7 waved for Buckshot to shut up. "Yeah, not our fight. So anyways, your ship? It got a name? And since you can fix it well, your hired!" Latyrx7 then nudged Hoist. "And he can help you. You can fix things, right? You look like you can fix things. Ok that's settled. Hoist and D-Fib will fix the ship. Roadtrain, Indelible and myself will have a look outside and meet up with Air Fang. Hopefully, he's had a good look around the area and can tell us if we can find something we can use to fix the ship."
Up in the cockpit, Knockout felt he needed to reassure Indelible that they needed to do the right thing. The right thing meaning not telling the others about the aliens. "There's nothing we can do if anyone wants to leave the ship. The way I see it is since so many of these humans aren't around anymore, they won't run into then and tell them what happened. Fact is, we need materials to repair the ship. So let them go but we need to keep quiet about this invasion stuff. And sure, if you can grab a fleshling and study it, I don't care. Just make sure it's dead so it doesn't talk!"
The ship's internal com system came to life with Latyrx7's voice. "Indelible, any word from Air Fang?"
Knockout actually panicked and answered for Indelible. "No! I mean, why that's a negative. He hasn't reported back. I mean, maybe he's just taking in the sights? He simply must be the irresponsible type since he hasn't reported in. I doubt he would answer any messages from us anyhow."
"Knockout? I thought you would of been in medical? No matter, send Indelible down. He's going on a scouting mission for materials with Roadtrain and myself."
"I'll send him down right away, boss! Over and out! Remember, Indelible. Not a word about the invasion!" Knockout said with a finger waving in Indelible's face.
Back in the hanger, Buckshot figured he was stuck with the ship and on guard duty since Latyrx7 hadn't given him any orders. But what better way to make sure those left behind didn't try to take off leaving them behind? Buckshot began to have a look around in the other containers for what he could find, wondering if they contained more member's of D-Fib's crew. He opened one container and was pleasantly surprised. "Well what have we here? Hey L7, we got a case of energon magazines here! All types of ammo. This must have been for Highram's security."

"Don't move, stranger! Your out of your element!" Shouted Buckshot as he aimed his weapon at the robot on Bomblast. He didn't know what was going on and hated the fact that he had to take sides with a former Decepticon against someone who could be an Autobot or at least not as bad as a Con. Did he really want to kill someone just before they might kill Bomblast? Not really, but he had no choice it seemed.
Seeing Hoist arm himself and walking in with him into hanger and seeing Bomblast and Buckshot in a awkward stand off with a mech he'd never seen before, threw Latyrx7 off. "Whoa, whoa, whoa whooooa! No shooting! Everyone calm down." Latyrx7 stood in front of Hoist, hoping it would stop him from shooting anyone. Latyrx7 wasn't sure if he could trust these new comers to the Renegades. And if he couldn't, he wasn't sure he and Buckshot could take them down in a fight. They did more than hold their own back on the prison moon and Latyrx7 figured from Hoist's body, he was stronger then he was. Maybe even stronger than Buckshot.
But enough of that, he had to trust them. They were all he got. Especially now if Heavy Assault ever found them. Latyrx7 knew their leader had a bad habit of not dying when it was better off that he was. So if Latyrx7 couldn't stay off Heavy Assault's radar, he'd need a team as bad ass as the Renegades ever been.
Approaching Bomblast slowly, Latyrx7 kept his hands in the air. "Ok, hopefully no one is going to shoot you. I know, that doesn't sound reassuring but at least it's honest. I can really only vouch for myself when I say I mean you no harm. And maybe him." Said Latyrx7 as he pointed towards Buckshot. "You see, were on the dodge but ain't looking for trouble. We're a mix of former residents who decided to leave when we weren't allowed to so the landlord is looking for us. And it's not because we skipped out on the rent. So, if you're like us you can join us or we'll let you go. After all, if you torch my friend their you're not going to leave the ship in one piece. My name Latyrx7."
*****
"You know what? I'll just stay here while you go to the hanger. I don't need any to dirt myself with whatever filth has collected there." Knockout said to the Roadtrain as he watched the much bigger mech leave the cockpit.
Before Indelible could make a decision on what to do next, terminal screen in front of began extremely active. The ship's computer automatically joined an open access network as it connected to the internet. The computer had used the promote entered earlier about gathering information of Earth's current predicament. The screen was flooded with data links, old new casts, video footage and images of the last few years of what had happened on the planet.
>>> CURRENT YEAR: 2078 >>> BIOLOGICAL SCAN OF PLANET: OXYGEN LEVELS ON DECLINE. CARBON MONOXIDE INCREASING 0.0004% DAILY RISING. >>> ANIMAL LIFE: 78% OF ALL KNOWN LAND ANIMAL SPECIES ON DECLINE. >>> POLLUTION LEVELS: 87% OF EARTH'S OCEANS SCAN AS TOXIC, UNABLE TO SUSTAIN LIFE >>> HUMAN POPULATION: THE LAST KNOWN NUMBER OF HUMANS WAS 8.1 BILLION IN THE YEAR 2023. THAT AMOUNT HAS DECEASED BY 62% >>> CIVILIZATION: CURRENTLY THERE ARE NO GOVERNMENTS IN PLACE AT ANY LEVEL. ALL MAJOR CITIES HAVE BEEN DESTROYED OR CRIPPLED. EARTH DEFENCE COMMAND NO LONGER FUNCTIONING.
The images and footage contained the violent imagery of Earth being ravaged by war. Indelible would be able to see cities on fire, armies fighting aliens he had never seen before and the ruins of what was left after each conflict. Also in the visuals, both Autobots and Decepticons seemed to be fighting together against the aliens. From what one could assuming by looking at the evidence was the aliens were a formidable fighting force. They're were groups of them who were different from one another. Some were the group troops while others could fly who spouted tentacles from their bodies. Some were massive, almost as big as Cybertron's Guardian robots, who charged into battle running on four legs. And the most disturbing of all were the aliens who seemed more like beasts than intelligent beings. Groups of monsters with large mouths full of sharp teeth who's image was captured as they torn into the whatever they hungered for.
The data links the computer collected began to play was could be assumed were old news feeds. One video was of a reporter speaking into the camera as they lived the event as it happened.
"They just appeared in the sky. They began to comes down to the surface but they didn't just land. They dug there ships into the ground! And when they came to a stop, they started shooting at everyone. Their weapons began tearing into everything, collapsing buildings like they were nothing. And if that was bad enough, when their doors open, out came what looked like an army of robotic creatures, They began tearing into anyone who was left behind and it was as if they were in a hunt. The entire city is on fire...."
The next video feed was just as bad.
"As you can see behind me, people are running. They are running scared, trying to get out of the city. Were going to leave in just a moment as the military has advised us to do so and... if you look up there you can see the ship that was just moments before in the ship now on the group releasing what we believe to be a robotic army of some kind. I have it on good authority that this isn't further Decepticon reinforcements but in fact, the Decepticons have been fighting then, even protecting humans form these awful creature and...."
The news man was cut off as what looked like a Decepticon Seeker land behind him.
"Foolish humans! Run while you have the chance. The invaders can't be held back!"
As the Decepticon turned to re-engage in battle, a blinding flash was seen followed by the sound of an explosion ending the video.
Another video showed a bridge running from a city over a large body of water to the mainland. The bridge was full of vehicles unable to move due to the amount of cars and trucks blocking the way. Soon, a series of explosions shook the bridge, destroying cars and causing people to panic, Then from the water, climbing up the support beams of the bridge, came the monsters seen earlier, preying on the humans as they ran from their lives.
More videos showed how utterly powerless Earth's military were against the invaders. Tanks were out maneuvered on the battlefield, combat jets were brought down by the massive alien spacecrafts. Chemical weapons were useless and worst of all, even with the combined strength of the Autobots and Decepticons fighting together, it wasn't enough to make a difference against this enemy and it's number.
Then one video, different from the others, began to play. It was of a lone person, standing at a podium as they made a emotional speech. "To whom ever may hear this out their in the outer regions of our galaxy, the Earth is doomed We have been invaded by a force by which we have never seen the likes of. We are in a state where the extinction of the human race is inevitable. But his is not a call for help or of rescue. This is a warning. Do not approach Earth. Stay away from our planet if you value your life. Our time has come, Do not approach Earth."
Over Indelible's shoulder, Knockout had watched the entire thing. "And now they tell us! Listen, Indelible. We can't let the others know what we just watched. All those former good-natured, high-horse Autobots we do something stupid like joining the fight against these creatures. I say we keep it to ourselves, help fix the ship and we find a quiet corner in the next galaxy over and but this mud ball on the opposite side of the after burner. What do you say?" Asked Knockout as he placed a 'friendly' hand on Indelible's shoulder.

So I was watching TF Basics and I know you guys know the show and Chris talks sometimes talks about a character and who they are and they're history. We all know TF characters change from one series to the next along with their toys. So I was wondering, which version of a certain character do you like the best.
I'll start off with Bumble Bee and his first version. G1 Bumble Bee was the smallest and weakest Autobot. He wasn't much of a warrior compared to his fellow Autobots or even his fellow Minibots. But he was a kind Autobot who became one of G1's mainstays. Later on he turned into Goldbug, new face and much stronger. Then later he became Bumble Bee again and was a Pretender, again gaining strength but still much like his original incarnation.
Then the live action movies came out. Bumble Bee was the main Autobot, different look and alternate mode, a warrior who did more than hold his own and he spoke in clipped radio sound bites of movie quotes and songs. This continued through out the movies and in later media like TF Prime.
Then Bumble Bee returns to his roots, sort of, in the Cybertorn games. Sporting a more G1 style but could fight and speak normally. Until the second game.
And there was TF Animated. I don't know this version that well, but he reminded me of a more kid who always getting into trouble.
Then we had version influenced by the movies but Bumble Bee was able to speak and fight.
So which do you prefer? Did I leave out a version you like?
I'm more than happy with G1 Bumble Bee. I don't mind who he is. His profile has many qualities that make up for his lack of strength and his character has substance. That said, I don't mind him being a warrior. For me, it hasn't affected my fondness for the character. I do like it when Minibots can kick ass but they don't have to be as strong as say Brawn to be a great warrior. As for his alternate modes, I don't need him to be a Volkswagen or a mini-car for that matter. It is a little weird seeing him as tall as the other regular sized Autobots but I guess our boy has grown up.

As the ship began to slow down, the craft vibrated and shook everyone inside. Anything not strapped down fell to the floor. The lights flickered on and off and alarms began to sound off. Knockout sat down in the co-pilot seat next to Roadtrain and held on tight to the console. "Geeez! I figured they would of at least placed a actually pilot in front of the joystick to fly this thing. Do you even transform into a aircraft? If not, there's your problem."
The landing gear touched the ground with a sickening crunch. Metal creaked as the hull of the ship sounded as if it warped it's self out of shape. Latryx7 held himself up against the wall of the corridor he and Hoist were walking down as the ship landed. "That could of been better. Come on, let's see whats going on in the cargo hold."
Buckshot and Bomblast managed to stay in their feet. However, much of the containers in the cargo hold fell and scattered across the floor. "I ain't cleaning this mess. Uh oh, Bomblast look."
Buckshot pointed at the container the two were investigating earlier. It's doors were now wide open.
