I got this idea to display each week to display the issue covers of each G1 entry (US & UK) and discuss the two covers. I thought it'd be fun to discuss them, the art, who's on the front and what's going on on the covers. If you wish to expand on a story that reminds you of one from the cover please feel free. US #1UK #1Doesn't the US #1 look very graphical?! Even down to the human face. What strikes me when i look at this again is that it's made out like Autobot is some big aevil allien robot (even though it's DEcepticons he's defending himself from). My eye however can't help but be drawn to the Autobot vehicle particularily as it's reminiscant of the later Armada Prime. UK #2, brings back nostalgia for me with the TF logo on a black backround at the top. Soundwave looks very threaatening with his shoulder cannon. Lus that was a good first issue for freebies! Transfers, poster and a competitioon to win 25 TF prizes! I like the way Soundwave is crushing/bending Prime's gun as well. Did Prime and Soundwave ever really go at it in the comics? In terms of big fights?

I hate to say it but I love the G1 issue 1 for its almost 1950s "robots invade the earth" look. I think thats gears on the front shooting isnt it?

My first thought was Gears, it does really have that 50's sci-fi look going on! What's funny about all the early UK issues though are that they'll all drawn like the toys, brick look and all!

I agree with Brawn on the US cover, it really captures the invading menance and danger to humans look. Prime comes off as the bad guy which is fantastic stuff really. From an art point of view it's very good although the human faces don't fit the rest of the style. The colours are dark and forboding otherwise, lots of shadow like effects. From a fan pov the scale is horrendous and whilst it serves the picture it isnt very accurate.
The other UK one is a classic cover and has stood the test of time very well. The blocky design was weird back then but fits perfectry with DW and IDW's modern stuff. The battle damage and explosions look awesome. it lets you know what to expect and makes no qualms about it.
To my knowledge Prime and Soundwave never had a major battle, nothing cataclysmic anyway.

US #2UK #2UK still has that alien frbots 60's invasion feel going on, but the US, what struck me there is prime's pose being almost exactly like UK#1's. Megatron's mouth on the US one is quite frankly scary! Any thoughts?

I think that both incorporating humans is great. Like you say the invading robots style should be what TF is all about, their war on our world (movie 07 style). The UK one is much more atmospheric and frankly looks much better. The painted style works well and really captures the awe and 'darkness' (?) of the Autobots exiting their ship.
The US one is faily bog standard stuff. I love action covers as a comics fan in general so on that front if pleases me. Strong art, decent colouring. Can't fault it, but it hardly blows me away.

[glow=blue,2,000]I wonder if the UK cover for issue 1, took the idea of Prime getting blasted in his front from issue 1 from the US. The US came out first right.
The US one feels like a cover for the first issue more then the UK one. But the UK one is better in terms of art and the fight scene.
The second UK one looks more like it should of been for issue 1 in away. Then again, from what I know, the stories that were reprinted, from the US comics, weren't always the same and cut the story down. So maybe the autobots didn't come out the Ark until issue 2? Am I right guys?
The UK ones are better drawn then the US covers over all. [/glow]

But i'd put it down to artistic license more than anything [/quote] Depend, do you mean at the start or over all. At the start we we are in this thread is US graphic art looking covers Vs UK tradional but drawn eaxtly like the toys (which can make the early UK ones a little kooky. Although overall the UK did have it's good TF artists, along with the bad like both sides of the coin for the US, no no doubt. I'll let this little discussion continue till Saturday, then i'll put up ~3 UK and US and try to get this thread back on keel on a regular basis.

The UK one has superior colouring and better pencils IMO, hence why i said overall it is much better from an artistic standpoint.

This is an interesting idea for a discussion, so I thought I'd bring it back to the spotlight. Although the links aren't working at the moment, I have issue 3 of the US comic and if I'm not mistaken it's the one with Spiderman on the cover. I don't remember exactly how it looked, which means I didn't hate it.

I really like the idea of people sharing their opinions and thoughts/memories of the covers. I can almost guarantee I'll respond to every cover given time... I say "given time" because we're still in the midst of moving so my time at the computer may be limited for the next couple of weeks.

Links have been fixed, pictures replaced, an instead of weekly I've made it fortnightly to allow more time greater discussion. So this fortnight you now can say what you think about Issue #3 in my post before last and issue #4: Issue #3: In the UK, the're still going for that 1950's feel, and giving away transfers and toys! Apparently. Nice fearful pose by the Witwicky's. US - Spidey makes his Transformers' debut and Megatron appears to be in a pickle! Have to wonder why Gears has got the honourly coverted Marvel box though! And i do like the power you can see in Megatron's fusion cannon UK #4US #4UK #4 - It's the reprint of US #2, albeit cropped. You can only just see Bumblebee being pinned down by Megatron's foor. US #4 - I love the position of the oncoming Decepticons, Megatron, Soundwave, Ravage and well it could be Thundercracker but as they're using a lot of blue to fill colour it could well be Starscream. Wow, I almost didn't see laserbeak at the top! Megatron takes center stage in the Marvel box, dark times ahead? Next issue: 17th November 2007

I can't seem to view the UK issue 4, but since it's like the US version I'm not too upset about it. As for the US issue 4, I love the way it shows the Autobots in such an unescapable position... the Decepticons are bringing an onslaught and it doesn't look good for the 'bots. One of the more intense US covers in the Marvel run.
