When BW first came out, I thought the idea was a travesty to the Transformers franchise and I thought it was stupid and sucked etc. etc. so I didn't watch the show... then around my sophomore year of high school, I would hang out after school at this after-school hangout place (nicknamed "The Outhouse") where this one guy watched Beast Wars reruns, and I caught a few and thought they were pretty dang cool... and then a few days/weeks later it was taken off the air. So when the first season was available on amazon.com, I bought it, watched it, and hated it (except for a few really cool episodes like the one where Waspinator is posessed by Starscream). It was pretty much as bad as I had originally expected it to be. The two-part pilot was arguably the worst pilot episode of any TV show EVER. Then today the second season came, I watched it, and holy freaking crap did Bob Forward improve his writing skills! The guest writers got better too... the Frankensteinian "what happens to a protoform when the stasis pod f*cks it up?" episodes are slightly disturbing, "Code of Hero" and "Transmutate" were total powerhouses, and the three-part finale with all the G1 characters was incredibly cool. Ravage with a Russian accent and cloaking device! How cool is that?
The second season easily showcases five times the writing talent of the first season, and does so in half as many episodes. Hopefully, Season 3 and Beast Machines will follow this trend.

We have one fan of BM here Sonicron, though you'll have to go to Germany to get a reply from him. The basic opinion is BM ruined all the good characters and had some really bad plot lines. But season 3 was good for cool new ideas, I think.

I heard that BM was a much more "spiritual" interpretation of the TF mythos... and I do so love the spiritual elements of TF...

Well it was spiritual but went over the top in places, which really spoilt it.
