Something I've been thinking about recently, and it's not just in the comics, it's the cartoons as well - some with fang-like dentures! (And they're not even beast Transformers!) It's something I saw alot of in the comics and it made me question why they need teeth. Some do eat Energon, some drink it down - but do they need teeth to chew? If so why do some have to look human like, they're 40ft+ robots - it's a bit late for fitting in/disguise etc. So should they even have teeth, or if they do what should they look like? A metal plate rather than "Teeth"? And what's with the fang like dentures in some comics and in their robot modes in cartoons? Some very strange things going on in the Transformers mouth region! (And to think some complain about the wirey necks of G2! )

I hear ya. It's always come across a little odd to me how "human" some of the Transformers features are, with "teeth" on their faceplate being at the top of the list.
I don't know if they need them or not, but they're weird beyond compare.

[glow=blue,2,000]Teeth and Transformers don't go together, unless there a strange sort of beast former or someone like a Dinobot. I never liked it and its weird. Especially when Andrew Wildman drew then during the Marvel run. Mind you he was the best for a while and I love his stuff. But then again, what about the facial hair? I like it but it makes no sense. What they should do is draw characters such as Alpha Trion and Wreckgar that have features that resemble facial hair and try and figure something out where it doesn't look like a metal mustache hanging off someone's face. But teeth aren't necessary, not even for energon. I always saw TFs absorbing energy be it through being hooked up with wires or drinking energon. Doesn't Optimus spit out a tooth in one of the new trailers? tfwiki.net/wiki/TeethHehehe! Lookie at what I found![/glow]

[glow=blue,2,300]So wrong... oh so wrong....
I remember a while back when I brought up the fact that Transformers had driver seats and stuff like that for their Cybertronian modes. Isn't that weird too considering there are not humans on Cybertron? I remember when Armada came out and I figured that the Minicons would somehow be worked in to explaining that, since in the DW series they attempted to make sense of this in War and Peace.[/glow]

Facial hair is a funny one though, for Wreck-Gar it long and realish like actual hair, but it could be argued he's a Junkion not a Transformer, even though he transforms... but that's a whole other issue! Then we have Scourge with his metallic goatee..
Given the choice I'd go with metallic rather than "real hair" looking. Although again why bother having it at all?

[glow=blue,2,000]I think Wreckgar is a Transformer. Though I don't know of any origins for him, I did read that Junkion is made up of Cybertronian junk. So maybe he fell in a garbage chute as a kid, was blasted into space and.... grew some funky facial hair? [/glow]

yeah, teeth are out of place, i like how the new movies did it (though megs did have teeth, but it does make him scarier.). If you think about it though, why are they so human like anyways. Again this bring me to the movie which made them feel more alien. as for facial hair, sometimes is good, sometimes its bad. a metal goatee is one thing. I think in wreck-gar's case he was probobly watching TV, saw someone playing Attila the Hun and then pasted hair on his face, and the others followed

I was thinking about this again in terms of role-playing and keeping things more in line with the lore of the franchise..
Part of me started thinking that even if they are "Plates" in there, (As apposed to teeth think what as graphic card in your computer looks like), that maybe they need them to sound out words? Then just now I thought, well no, if it wasn't the case then you'd just hear what they say and their mouth wouldn't move! Which doesn't necessitate the need for lips either! Again - or do they to sound out words? It's vocal processors that actually do the work... *Gets all geeky*
Okay, I officially think about these things to much/deeply!

I want to say "no, they do not need lips, teeth and tongue to enunciate" but then, why do they have them (aside from the obvious 'because the artist designed them to look human because that's what we relate to')? Should they have mouths at all? Or maybe they are simply remnants of a time when their vocal processors were less sophisticated and they actually needed them to produce sounds like we do?

Tongues are even worse IMO! Do they need metallic tounges to "Swallow" when they go to McAddam's Old oil bar? Mind you - if not, they might end all end up having mouths like this! (UK #56): Or this!:

Sort of feel the same as Onix. I like that TF Prime has done away with the nose though!
