What do you think are some of the most disappointing or worse toys to date? I was watching these old TF commercials and couldn't get over how poor PM Optimus Prime was. Did anyone ever have him originally? Maybe you can share some fine aspects. I mean it really does look like a brick! Not only does it not stand up to the original but not even Laser Rod Optimus prime from G2 IMO. I am also still not convinced about getting FoC Grimlock, looks great in robot mode but the alt mode is horrible! utter garbage. I was never keen on classics Grimlock but the alt mode on the FoC in comparison makes it good! I dunno maybe it's just one of those looks great in game but fails to translate well to a toy.

I've found most of the movie-verse figures to be disappointing. So many of them, you look at the underside of the vehicle mode and you can clearly see a folded up robot underneath. Transformations involve unfolding the robot and moving a tonne of panels around, and most of the robot modes have a horrible amount of car panels hanging off them. The alt modes look pretty good, but only if you can get absolutely everything lined up absolutely perfectly.
PM Optimus is a bit of a brick, but I want to get my hands on it. I have no idea why, but PM Optimus with the Apex Armour is near the top of my Want list.

I have PM Optimus Prime. I remember when I was a kid putting him on Lay-Away at Wal Mart. I still have him too. Just have to dig him out of the closet. The one I was kinda disappointed about was G1 Ratchet and Ironhide. In vehicle mode they looked fine but the robot mode was bad. Another complaint I had was some of the combiners. If you wasn't careful the heads would snap off when you tried to either make the combiner or take them apart.

The movie-vese there were some good ones, they were just very few and far between however. The little scouts were great however! I couldn't stop getting them! Ratchet and Ironhide, I always force myself not to buy the re-issues (Or on E-bay) as I know I will always be disappointing with them. I know you can get the third part heads these days, but I'm guessing they would be pricey. Universe Ironhide was bad in terms of all the panel lines in alt mode, and the 3rd party Weapons Specialist (Ironhide also a re-deco as Ratchet or vice versa) is eveything right and everything that G1 Ironhide and Ratchet should have been.
IN the late 80's Transformers became more and more plastic starting from the 86' movie toys, die cast became less and less. Some of those very late 80's toys were just awful. Yay for modern technology/design and mass articulation! Imagine what the R.I.D. spychangers would be like now instead of just pull the arms out, flip chest down and pull lower part own for legs!

Hoist, I totally agree with you about FoC Grimlock. He's oddly shaped and I sort of feel he looks like a plastic kids toy rather then a bad ass TF. Even G1 Grimlock is better. I think one TF toy I was never into was Megatron. He was so flimsy and kinda weird. Megatron was suppose to be bulky and strong looking. Megs just seen to look like a crippled old man. Plus he was shorter then G1 Prime.

I haven't bought figures in a while, but there is a couple gripes that I do have with a couple of the ones that I do have...
TM: Rattrap... the shiny red paint is just about gone... this is the first release, not the re-release...
Beast Machines Deluxe (the big one) Jetstorm... While the character is not to-the-show accurate (The vehicon trooper version was closer...) same issue with the metallic blue paint...
sadly I didn't get the collection that I wanted... but that's a different topic

Some of mine are flaking, but I don't handle them much so they've all retained most of their chrome. The problem was that Hasbro didn't prime the plastic before applying the chrome, and so the chrome never bonded with the figure. Disappointing figures. I've been thinking on this one for a while since the thread was posted. Going back to Beast Wars, there isn't a figure I have that I don't like. I was disappointed when I got Injector as a kid, but that figure has grown on me and I actually quite like it now. It helps that he was part of the Beast Wars comic books from IDW where I really liked his design, and his figure pulls off the 'hook hand' pretty well. So, I guess it is on to Beast Machines. I don't own a lot of Beast Machines (and I hated it as a kid), but I actually don't dislike too much of what I have. Silverbolt is pretty terrible, as is Blastcharge. Mega class Cheetor is also a bit of a turd because he doesn't like to stand up. The Unicron trilogy had some poor figures, but jumping ahead to more recent examples, I don't think there has been any more recent disappointments than TFP deluxe class Airachnid. That is a pretty terrible figure. It has nothing going for it.
