Miles away, in a safer part of the galaxy, the Wreckers now in a cramped space ship, looked at each other with relief. Searching for a small piece of solace to make them feel better about all they had lost. Team mates now gone, most making the ultimate sacrifice and paying the biggest price. Everyone had been repaired by now by First Aid, even Rodimus. Who was a stranger among the Wreckers but familiar with the terrible feelings a mission like this brings on.
Springer sat at the pilot seat, just starring into space while Broadside in the co-pilot station guided the ship. Iron Fist sat silently, cross-legged and reflected on what had occurred hours ago.
Then First Aid walked into the flight deck to join all of the remaining Wreckers. He had been put to the task of deciphering all the communications that took place between all the Wreckers while on the mission. Autobot protocol states that all conversation must be recorded for the sake of critiquing the mission afterward it had been completed or after it has failed. First Aid looked grim as he placed his data pad down and started to explain.
"They knew we were coming. Thunderwing some how planned all this to trap us."
Springer looked up. "Thats impossible. Why do you say that?"
First Aid then played the part where Thunderwing replayed Torques' message back to Torque and Trigger. "Thats how, and Torque recorded Thunderwing the whole time that Deceptichump was bragging about it! He must have sent out that scout ship we captured knowing we couldn't resist. And then he must have allowed the team to enter the ship, knowing we'd have to split up to not get caught, weakening our strength. His mistake was trusting his Seeker goons with taking down the team completely. Basically it was simply the best way to find us. Anyway, I'll spare you the details of the conversations and get right to it. Thunderwing stripped that red planet down for it's energon, the red and green to be exact. Then he actually found away to combine it, making who ever had it in their system more powerful. But it wasn't stable, not at all. It seems the mix of red and green energon doesn't interact well with our sparks. Different things seem to take place. Like Bomblast losing his mind, the energon seems to make it easier for him to lose control. And it killed Download. After coming to the conclusion that the energon affected Bomblast, I did some research. Back on the Decepticon scout ship we captured, Download actually drank the energon of a dead Vehicon. And it was the Vehicons who had the energon inside their bodies. Unlike us, they don't have sparks. Thats why I detected the energon on the Harbinger before you guys went to the Draconian. Download had it in her system. Sandstorm told me earlier that she used his phase powers at one time, and when she went solid, the molecular structure of the energon must have changed and made it poisonous to her inners."
First Aid paused for a moment. He didn't want to sound like a scientist who was happy making a discovery while talking about Download's death. After he composed himself First went on. "So, what we know. Thunderwing found red and green energon at various locations, used the Draconian to transport it and his troops, and even converted the red and green energon to something to give his Vehicons extra power. And creating Vehicon soldiers using Rodimus as a template. So, we shut down his operation, big time."
"But what about that mist that Sandstorm said was eating all the Decepticons alive?" Asked Broadside.
"Ahh, glad you asked." First Aid allowed himself a more light-hearted tone now as he spoke. "After Sandstorm told me what happened before witnessing the mist. I did an experiment here on the ship. I took a small sample of the red and green energon mixture and lit it on fire, thus creating the same effect as the corrosive metal-melting mist."
First Aid then raised up his hands and flash everyone his palms. They had burn marks all over them. "Don't worry, everything is fine. There's no mist floating around on the ship, it as just a drop, I promise. There you happy Bomblast? Anyway, when the explosives set in the collecting area went off and ignited the red and green energon, it created a mist. A corrosive mist that had the same effect on all metal the same way it did on Download. I told you that stuff is unstable."
Iron Fist finally said something. "So, Thunderwing was playing with something that finally destroyed him?"
"Well, I can't confirm that." Answered First Aid.
"Why not?"
First Aid then walked over to the long range scan station. There he activated the station's screen and after some button punching the screen had the red planet the Draconian had been orbiting. But now it looked different.
First Aid began to explain. "Thats the planet Thunderwing mined for his energon. The same planet the Draconian crashed on. When the ship hit the planet's surface, it impacted with the same force of a asteroid. While the planet remained intact, the ship of course wouldn't have. That ship had so much red and green energon stored on board that everything ignited upon crashing down. All that energon turned to mist and when it did so it's volume changed as well. At least 20 times over! Within hours the entire planet was engulfed in the mist. If anything of the ship survived the crash, it wouldn't last long down there. That stuff makes cosmic rust look like a rash."
"So First Aid, do you think it was strong enough to have eat through the Apex Armour. "Springer asked hopefully.
"Maybe. Maybe not. Another little funny side-effect of Thunderwing's cocktail. It makes it hard to scan through. Its produces so much radiation readings that I can't get a proper scan off the surface. And I used all three of our sky-spies to have a look, there still there orbiting around the planet. That mist is thicker then a smelting pool full of cooled sludge. But if you ask me, Thunderwing was dosed with the mist before we escaped the Draconian, that same ship crashed harder on a planet then a comet and then he was hit with another does of the red and green energon mist. In my professional opinion, there's nothing left of him."
