Not gonna make a poll of it, just wondering.
As some may or may not know, I ran a sci-fi ProBoard from 2002 - 2004 until it got deleted. In more recent years we had a Sci-fi September month here but over the years it kind of fizzled out and wasn't worth continuing. With the new Star Wars film and everything, I still like sci-fi, especially older stuff but I wouldn't say I love it as much as I used to I still watch Star Trek re-runs, Doctor Who and am thinking going though the Battlestar Galactica series remake again.
So do you like sci-fi, not like it, indifferent? Do you prefer films or tv or no preference?

Sci-fi is one of my favourite genres of book and film/tv. Absolutely love it. Everything from space based sci-fi like Star Trek/Wars, Firefly/Serenity, Dr who etc to time travel like Terminator to more realistic stuff like Jurassic Park (try telling me cloning isn't science fiction).
A couple of years ago, I was working in a bookstore and I was in charge of the sci-fi, fantasy and horror sections. Most of my book collection is sci-fi. Saying that, I prefer to and film to books for sci-fi, I just can't seem to picture it in my mind as well as I can with fantasy.
I also think games are a good sci-fi medium as well. Halo, Alien Isolation, Doom, Titanfall are all sci-fi. Even some of the latest Call of Duty games are going down the sci-fi route.

I love Sci-Fi! I love it in games, books, TV, and movies! Big fan of Old Flash Gordon Serials, old B-Movies, Star Trek TOS, Buck Rogers (Gil Girard version), Battlestar Galactica (Original), ALIEN, Blade Runner, Star Wars, Star Trek movies involving the original cast and the new installments, Farscape, Dark Matter, Defiance, Killjoys, and so much more! Not even gonna get into Authors and novels.

The problem I've noticed is a lot of people think that sci-fi means space, aliens and time travel. And while that is what most sci-fi involves, it isn't limited to that. Jurassic Park and Frankenstein fall under science fiction quite easily.

True but I see them like sub-genres. Like the film Aliens - Sci-fi or Horror? It's both it can extend to that and fantasy as well.

My sci-fi poll had an ulterior motive..
I'm not thinking of starting Sci-fi September again, I was considering having a slice of the The Last Outpost at TTF with a permanent forum underneath the Sharkticon Pit if there's enough interest. As well as WHO and the new star Wars films I'm re-watching Star trek next gen and DS9 re-runs at the moment as well. It's a consideration at the moment, sci-fi September fizzled out, a re-launch of a new Last Outpost as a general forum failed to ignite, perhaps it's time to keep it closer.. (Otherwise it might stop me doing something stupid like making another message board, promised myself the 80s one was the last.)
All depends of amount of interest of course, 4 people so far, myself included. Might give an extra incentive to come to TTF when we don't have much TF stuff going on.

I'm going to say do it. TF falls under sci-fi and most of us, if not all of us, like sic-fi. And after its set up we can move some of the sic-fi threads there to get things started.

Thanks, it all depends on what a majority decides of course as to whether it goes ahead or not, and the best people to ask - are you guys! So yeh or neh? Let's hear some other opinions! There's between star trek and star wars coming out (literally now), is this a good idea?

I say do it. Every trailer released in the last couple of weeks has been sci-if to some extent (Star Trek, X-Men, TMNT, Independence Day).

I enjoy sci-fi stuff! For films and books, I want a good story to go with my favorite genre of course, but Sci-fi gives you so many fun things to play with. I've also been slowly rewatching some Star Trek series (Still in the Originals season 1, just to show you how slow I've been going). Sci-fi tends to blend into fantasy sometimes (is it tech or magik?) and even steampunk which can be fun depending how it is used. Would this be a thread to talk all things sci-fi? I say yesh. Transformers is a form of sci-fi and it'll be something fun to talk about with the rest of the members instead of just Transformers. ps - is it sci-fi or Science Fiction?
