Hey there people. I was driving home the other night from work and had a few work mates with me in the car. We were gonna play on the x-box and then go to this club later.
Anyway as we were drivng my friend pointed out the moon. It was a crescent moon but it was a sorta orange red colour. It got me thinking how does that work?
Ive seen the moon red, yellow, orange (or its regular white) but only when its a full moon. It looks realy cool and i like it when its orangey colour or the reddish colour.
Anyway i was just wondering if anyone on here knew what caused this phenomnom.

When a full moon starts rising over the horizon it looks red or orange because the moon is closer to the earth and as it slowly rises it changes color to yellow about half way into the sky then when it is directly over head it is white because it is further away from the earth. At least thats the way I've always heard it..

[glow=blue,2,300]Particulate matter in the atmosphere will also alter the perceived colour of the moon. Hence why many red moons (called harvest moons) will occur when there've been a lot of fires (big ones like forest fires) or other sources of atmospheric pollution.
It's all perception though. The moon simply reflects the light from the sun. The sun won't change colour for another 4-5 billion years and the moon isn't changing colour either.[/glow]

" from a random site picked from a Yahoo search "
This is a natural astronomical event due to a unified planetary magnetic field, which last happen on Earth 3657 years ago. The moon’s red appearance is due to the moon reflecting the light emitted from the 12th planet, which is predominately in the red wavelength of the spectrum and the red dust floating in the statically charge atmosphere of Earth. Do you alter your life and follow individuals due to a prediction of a hurricane or tornado. Both these events in the ancients’ times caused people to pray to the Gods and in some cases make sacrifices, but we now know they are natural events. The pole shift is a natural event, but it hasn’t been experience by modern man. There is no need to get swept up in hype.

The ONLY time I've ever seen a red or orange moon was during the Solar Eclipse. Other than that, I never knew the moon changed color or "reflected" from the sun or what have you.
But I know when I watched it during the solar eclipse, it was almost impossible to take my eyes away cause it was just so......eerily incredible and neat looking. Kinda perrty too.

[glow=blue,2,300]Although having said that Titan, the largest moon of Saturn (and larger than the planet Mercury) would probably have an interesting green/orange glow due to the clouds of methane and whatnot.
Sorry, science junkie alert![/glow]

that was so funny autobotsdie. Ok then if a Person turns into a werewolf on a normal full moon, what would happen on a blood red moon?
